Yes, I am unable to form opinions based upon my own tastebuds. Thank you for clarifying, kind sir.

Okay here's one, even though it has it's own separate thread. I did a day trip out to the Sunshine Coast today so I didn't get any local pics but on the way past the north plaza of the Vancouver Art Gallery I saw that they've completely fenced off the whole area with black covered fencing. So, it seems the work has begun. The big cedars in front of the building are gone. The only tree I saw remaining was the big one at the northwest corner near Hornby and Georgia. There may be more so I'll try to get some pics tomorrow.

I really really really REALLY hope the tree in the Northwest corner stays. I absolutely love it.

So with the plaza being redone, and the Robson Street side being permanently closed, there will be a linear pedestrian linkage from Georgia Street all the way to the end of the Law Courts elevated plaza. Nice.

Judging by my walk-past this morning, looks like the perimeter trees are staying but everything inside the fences, close the the building, seems totally gone.

Not sure if this is the right thread, but here are the open house boards for the new park at Smithe & Richards. I think the last update was for input on the 4 options. This one is for the emerging final design.

Thanks!

Looks promising (not just a doggie toilet) and nice tall screen of trees along the alley:

I can see bums congregating (smoking, drinking, littering, and defecating in the north east corner. Also I can ppl sleeping under certain sections.

Like how there is a retail unit though

I'm pretty happy too. You don't need cars running through what should be public space. I think the VoC should also close Water street in Gastown from Cordova to Main, alongside Carrall and Alexander Street when they intersect. A quant square without traffic would fit nicely there.

i don't know why the council bothers with all these small closures, everyone knows their end game is to make Downtown car free, may as well just rip the band-aid off fast and get it over with.

I agree with the sentiment though I can see why they are doing it this way. Basically, it's the same "boil a frog" strategy: if you drop it in boiling water right away it will jump, but if you gradually turn it up you will cook it. You can see it with the way the city is implementing the bike lanes as well.

And it seems to be working. I was talking with staff and they say the mood around these projects has definitely shifted since the first acts of reducing road space. People now see the benefits and largely want more of it. This approach has been done in other cities like Copenhagen and it has worked.

Ideally I would like to see it right away, but if gradual gets the job done, I'm okay with that too.

That's the main road to get to downtown for tens of thousands of people who live north of the viaducts. Put a highway over the rail tracks to highway 1 and you can do that.
