Chipotle Mexican Grill

Found THIS ad for a job opportunity for Chipotle in Ottawa. Anyone know where it is going in? This is an Ottawa first.

Not sure what they are building to the east of this but based on the map on the website below, Princess Auto is another confirmed tenant for this development.

Done.

Are you predicting that GT will be next to close? Not a chance, if there is a good example of a Canadian family owned success story, its GT. They are in expansion mode opening new stores regularly, and they just broke ground on a new multi-million dollar state of the art distribution centre in Eastern Ontario.

Yeah, cheapo chains like GT, Dollarama (and stuff like L'Aubainerie in Quebec) are probably the fastest-growing segment of retail at the moment.

The high end will survive too but the middle (where chains like Le Château and even Sears are targeted) is drying up quickly.

No, that was in response to the question:

and Giant Tiger, Foster's Sports Centre, and (the much older still) Ritchie's were the best examples I could think of without research.

I hope you're right that they're in great shape, we're weekly shoppers at the Hinontburg GT Express; and the neighbourhood would be worse (and more expensive) without them.

This is interesting. No limit to where this could go. Train Yards would be sweet, not sure if they have space they are leasing. Hope it is the first of a few around the city!

Trainyard has room, they are expanding at the far east, past the Movati, beside the Farmboy. There is a new building being erected with a few spaces that will be leased.

The Expedition Shoppe is no more.

The Sparks St. location was the last one, and it closed on March 31st.

The Richmond Rd. location shut down and Great Escape Outfitters opened in its place some time ago:

Anybody need a roof cow?

Orléans' Cheddar Et Cetera closing, putting rooftop cow out to pasture

Jon Willing, Ottawa Citizen
Published on: April 25, 2016 | Last Updated: April 25, 2016 6:48 PM EDT

The famous rooftop cow of Orléans is being put out to pasture.

Cheddar Et Cetera, the Orléans cheese boutique that fought city hall to keep a plastic cow on its roof, is closing at the end of the month.

“It’s so saddening. Everybody is asking me what we’re going to do with the cow,” store manager Jacques Leury said.

“It’s going to go back in the field in St. Albert. They’ll bring it back home, I guess.”

Staff learned earlier this month that the store was closing. There are two full-time and six part-time workers.

“We did our best,” Leury said. “It was nothing wrong with the store or staff. It’s just way times are, I guess.”

The St. Albert Cheese Co-operative owns the Watters Road store, which opened in 2007. The fake Holstein caused a ruckus at city hall in 2010, when the city, citing sign regulations, threatened to yank it from the roof.

Leury fought to save the cow, collecting thousands of signatures on a petition.

The cow kerfuffle prompted the city to open its rooftop sign bylaw to see if there should be any changes. Council gave the cow four years, but Orléans Coun. Bob Monette made sure the cow would be fixture in his ward a long as the store stayed open.

Last July, council voted to give the cow a permanent waiver from the rooftop sign bylaw just as the grace period was about to expire.

Monette said he was surprised when he learned the store was closing.

“We keep growing and growing and sometimes we forget our agriculture heritage. This was one way to show the children what agriculture was all about,” Monette said. “I’m just sorry to see it go.”

Andre Ladouceur, the St. Albert Cheese director who oversees commercial operations, said the store succeeded in distributing St. Albert products to east Ottawa, but it wasn’t financially viable.

“The fierce loyalty of both the employees and customers had it stay for as long as it did and it was definitely appreciated,” Ladouceur said.

As for the cow, which is nicknamed Albertine, it has a future back at St. Albert headquarters.

“We’re going to find good use for the cow, probably back at our flagship store,” Ladouceur said. “We have a couple of cows already in place and we’re definitely looking at expanding what we do with the site that we have. So, people need not worry about Albertine. We’ll definitely find a use for her.”

I was under the impression the Costco move to Shoppers City East was all but dead. Apparently not...

According to Retail Insider, Amsterdam-based Scotch & Soda is actively looking for space in Ottawa as part of their Canadian expansion plans; specifically, the Chain is looking for retail space at the Rideau Centre, and/or Bayshore.

Home Outfitters CLosing

Strangely enough, I noticed this morning, as I drove by, that the Home Outfitters location near Innes and Blair is closing. That location only. I wonder why.............

Ottawa Neighbourhood Services is gone as they can't pay rent. They were supposed to have a big outdoor clearance sale today and I drove my pop there (he loves going to garage sale) but the landlord didn't open the door so there was no sale.

A lady drove down from Smith Falls and she was pissed. She said she would report the matter to the newspapers, not sure if that would make any difference. We used to pick up items from this place when it was on Wellington but this was my first time coming here since they relocated.

Another institution gone, guess they can't keep up with Value Village and the donation boxes all over the city.

* Retail Insider previously suggested it might open at the Rideau Centre; I think that's more than likely given the timing of the new expansion opening coincides with their Twitter post...
