His product was good. I remember getting it wrapped in brown paper not the plastic ziplock bag you get from the big box food "delis".

I drive by where his store was and its now a fairly new 3 unit condo building.

Yeah, Simon's was one of the last great North main Jewish-style delis. And Omnitski's was the last real kosher butcher. There was also Oscar's Deli on Main street near Mountain and Lisi's Ranch House used to be Samuel's House of Corned Beef way back.

Now, you have Oscar's Deli downtown, Myer's Deli on Grant near Kenaston, Bernstein's on Corydon, Sherbrook Deli, and Ira's Deli (in the Exchange). Only Sherbrook makes its corned beef in house as far as I know.

cant say I was too impressed with Myers. I used to like Oscars downtown when I worked around there. the Sherbrook one sounds like it is worth a go..

Sherbrook Deli has one of my favorite Corned Beef sandwiches ever. It is different though because it is hot, fresh shaved brisket. It just melts in your mouth. If I didn't have a lunch meeting today I would have to go. I do like a traditional deli style corned beef sandwich though. Myers is good, but the crust on their rye is too crunchy making the sandwich too hard to eat in my opinion.

Myers used to be the best in the city when Danny still owned it. Hasn't been the same since the new owners took over. The prices are ridiculous now and they don't know how to cut "shaved" corned beef. Thats a big fail for me, the thinner the better. And I don't really consider Sherbrook to be a real deli... more of a restaurant that serves deli food. I would never go there to pick up meat.

The reason it was called Pier 7 is that that building previously was "Pier 7 Marina" It was a Marine/Boat retailer. When they turned the property into a restaurant ( I'm not sure that Grapes was the 1st restaurant, but it may have been), the marina re-located to Chevrier. If Anchor Marine is still on Chevrier, it's the last connection to the original Pier 7 marina.

The landlords locked the doors and put up the unpaid rent notice.

Guess The Pint ate into their VLT business.

Chamberlyn's was like stepping back into the 80s in terms of décor and ambience. I suppose the owners treated it like a used car where you know you can't get anything for selling it, so you might just keep driving until the wheels fall off. Looks like the wheels fell off.

But yeah, perfect timing considering what's in store at Wpg Square.

The former City councilor Garth Steek and his family own Myers now. Every time I am in there he is working behind the scenes.

Just had lunch today at that middle eastern restaurant besides Petes Place on north main. Never took note of the name but man was that good.

Used to go to Chamberlyns often for lunch. Food was ok but you sure knew you were in a basement. Hard to see any higher end restaurant getting around that problem.
