This jives with what I have heard, although a start in construction of the Mercedes dealership this year is a bit surprising. Again, I think they want to get a jump on Porsche/Jaguar in the marketplace.

I also heard it will be on Aviation Avenue, specifically across the street from the Acura dealership.

The new Red Satay Grill location on Dieppe blvd is now open. The menu is the same but the restaurant is much nicer then their other location. Very large, very bright space. It's a welcome addition to the area and seems to be quite busy whenever I drive by.

I'm not a fan of this project as is at this specific location.

However, if Coast Tire and Deluxe were to exit and they were to clear those two parcels of land into a nice tranquility park full of trees, pond, lighted trail posts, benches and all, then I'm all thumps up.

That would give the whole block a good mix of commercial, retail, residential, nature flavors.

I don't think I would want to rent an apartment on the East side with a constant Deluxe fish&chips smell when relaxing on the patio!

I wouldn't want that outside my patio either, but it's just not going to happen where they take the most valuable retail property in the region and put trees and park benches on it.

I really want to be excited about that building but I am very annoyed at the location...im sure it will grow on me but it's such a missed opportunity for the area. Would do wonders for density right in downtown dieppe by city hall or on the lots next to UNB moncton on assumption Blvd.

A proposed new grocery store that some neighbours claim is not suited to their neighbourhood is back before Dieppe city council on Monday night with an application to alter the conditions imposed on the construction project.

City council gave final approval to the project last year after ordering a number of conditions to keep noise and traffic from impacting nearby resident too much. The residents were upset when the project was proposed earlier in 2015, saying they bought homes in the area on the understanding it would be purely a residential area with a possible golf course next door, play areas for children and home to a future school.

The changes to the conditions to which the developers are bound won’t be clear until the meeting. Currently, those conditions include a buffer zone of varying widths along the property line facing the residents, measuring 26 metres at its narrowest point, including a 12 metre high sound-attenuating wall followed by trees, shrubbery and rose bushes to improve the appearance of the wall. No night-time deliveries will be allowed, as well.

The land is located near Valmond Crescent and Yvonne Street, along Dieppe Boulevard. Developers Michel and Maurice LeBlanc plan to build four separate buildings on the land, with a new Sobeys grocery store as the anchor tenant, two other retail buildings and a gas bar with a car wash.

A friend who is close to this project tells me the size of the Sobeys will be reduced from the original 58,000 square feet to 43,000 square feet, and the proposed gas bar and car wash has been scrapped in favor of a small retail strip. This will be rubber-stamped by council at their June meeting and construction will begin.

So I guess that means that the Dieppe Blvd Coop's days are numbered. I can't see Sobeys operating two stores in such close proximity.

It's also interesting to speculate about the reduced size of the store. Could this mean that the rumoured Coop on nearby Harrisville Blvd could be a go in the near future? It would make sens for Sobeys to reduce the size of their Dieppe Blvd store in order to open another store there. Food for thought.

Interesting.
Before I would speculate, I'd like to know how close is Sobeys Quebec to the rest of the chain. That Coop is run by Sobeys Quebec arm.
With some companies, their Quebec branch is just another part of the chain. With some others, however, they are almost a foreign entity and operated almost separately from the rest of the corporation.
I have no clue which one is the case at Sobeys.

The way that I look at it is that it will create brand confusion and also people are loyal to their grocery store brands. And one thing when they open up in Dieppe do you think that they will shutter their store at the CF Champlain mall?

The provincial government confirmed today that the construction of the new Grade 3 to 8 school will relieve overcrowding at École Amirault, École Carrefour de l’Acadie and École Mathieu-Martin in the Francophone Sud school district.

“A strong education system is key to the future of New Brunswick’s economy,” said Premier Brian Gallant. “That is why investments like this in education are so important.”

Preparation of the site began earlier this month, and building construction is set to start in August. The new school will be ready for students at the start of the 2018-19 school year.

Once construction is complete, École Amirault will become a kindergarten to Grade 2 school, allowing the existing infrastructure to accommodate the growing student body.

“We must deal with the overcrowding that these schools have been seeing so we can offer the best learning environment possible,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Roger Melanson. “This important project reflects the growth that this region is seeing.”

The new school will accommodate up to 1,020 students. It will have a cafeteria, a science laboratory, two gyms, two music rooms, a performing arts room, a library and multipurpose rooms, as well as 40 classrooms and other spaces.

“This is the best solution to the growing student population in Dieppe,” said Gérald McKen, chair of the district education council. “By building a new school, we can ensure all students benefit from a better school environment.”

The project falls within the framework of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development’s capital budget. In 2016-17, the provincial government will invest $108.6 million in infrastructure and improvements for schools.

There certainly has been a flurry of new school construction in Moncton over the last decade. There is also the planned new Anglophone middle school in the northwest end to take the pressure off of Evergreen Park and Northrup Frye Schools too.

I just see one problem with the article, and I went to the link to see it's the province who "fudged" it up Mathieu Martin is grade 9-12 so a new school grade 3-8 will not relieve the amount of Students in there. Mathieu Martin will still be the only grade 9-12 school in the city of Dieppe. But will help to have 5-8 split between Carefour, and the new school, and Amirault is way to small for the amount of students that are there now it was my understanding that they are over packed at 30+ students per classroom but that is just from hear say.

Don't get me wrong it's great news that they are finally looking at the french schools. In Moncton they built L'Odyssée/Le Mascaret after plans to close Beausejour, and Vanier, and making those 2 schools become part of the Hospitals next to them, and had 90% if not more of the students from those 2 areas out of the area for going to Le Mascaret. So that was a bust. Sainte-Bernadette took the brunt of the Beausejour crowd. Hopefully this new school in Dieppe will be better planed.

The article is not clear but the situation is that Carrefour keeps creeping into MM high school's building more and more. That is the issue at that location. (For those unaware, the two schools are connected.)

If that is the case then the parents, and previous students where right that it was a bad idea to add the middle school into a high school(that was already at max capacity at 2000+ Students), and that they should have built a new school attached even if they wanted it to match to the old school there are ways to do it. The area they took up for Carefour where the small gym wood, and metal shops, and also Sex Ed, and Special Ed. classes Not to forget English, and Art classes that where on the second level of that area, and seemed to be an after thought considering to get to then you had to go to the shop class area to get use the stairs, or elevator to get up there.
