^ All the 4 storey buildings going up in the Village won't do much to change the skyline, but at least it'll keep driving up the density. That should keep the neighbourhood pretty vibrant and interesting.

There is no shortage of older homes in disrepair which could be razed for taller projects. I understand the conservative approach based on demand. I would like to see some higher towers located on Osborne.

Good point. For all the development going on in Osborne Village you sure don't see many obvious signs of it on Osborne itself. I guess things will change with the Osborne Village Inn project and the Confusion Corner office building, and if the Gas Station Theatre project gets off the ground.

It's a little surprising that no one has built a highrise lately in what must easily be Winnipeg's highest-demand urban neighbourhood.

I really like the planters that could be used to separate bike lanes. That would add so much to the area.

You mean Fort Garry place?

I agree.

However, the new museum next door is a great new attraction, and once complete will be a great way to commemorate the land where Manitoba was born. Celebrate our history!

They do mean the new park. Theyd have the entire downtown built over with zero parks of they were in power. They don't get that to get people to move downtown you need green space and the forks doesn't count as people don't want to basically drive to the forks. They want parks close to their new condos.

As with many urban features, less is often more. A small, well designed and well manicured park with the rest of the block given over to buildings and various other uses to ensure a constant presence of people would be far more appealing a way to celebrate our history than the large sprawling, windswept lot we ended up with.

I guess the thinking is that if a 1 hectare park is good, then a 2 hectare park is twice as good, a 3 hectare park 3x as good, and so on... but I don't think that's the case.

Exactly. There was already a park across the street. The Forks are basically across the other street. Fort Garry park isn't even usable space. If they'd built a soccer field, that's one thing, but it's some abstract space that nobody uses because it's not useful.
