IIRC on ALT, it was up damn near til the end. Even then the anchor points didn't get finished for some time.

I really like how Glasshouse turned out.

Not sure, but in the diagram section it's shown as being almost as tall as Fort Garry Place. That can't be right.

I haven't seen a number listed anywhere but an approximation can be made based on the floor measurements given on their website. You'd have to know what their floor thicknesses are though and the height of the mechanical on top.

I can confidently say there has never been so much action in here before. Winnipeg's humming, Sask has some nice big projects on the go... love it.

Here's one from the skywalk.

A bit of work to finish up on the roof. Otherwise it looks pretty good. Not sure what the ground level looks like around the building though. Looks like it needs to be finished up still. There's some guys on ladders about half way up. Not sure what they were doing.

Thanks. It looks pretty good indeed. A refresh of the Dayton Building's ground level would go a long way in helping the vibe here. Also, the city should replace the centre median on Portage with red paving stones and more trees.

I would go for more trees but for the love of flying spaghetti monster please just go with evergreens. It makes me so sad to see those deciduous ones on the median with plastic bags tangled in the limbs, the poor maintenance/pruning jobs. Evergreens would look great all year, and do easy double duty during holiday décor season.

Pretty sure evergreens are more susceptible to salt, etc. They'll turn brown rather quickly. Big problem with trees along roadways. They get rather harsh spray all the time. Just like the trees that are dead along Disraeli.

The City has been trying to plant more hardy trees, IIRC anyways. I'm not an arborist, so don't really know.

Yeah I suppose you're right. There are people who are paid to think about these things all day, so it would seem they are making the best decision available.

Those trees near the Disraeli have been a disaster right from the get-go.

Glasshouse is my favourite building so far that's been built in the last 10 years. Just wish it was on Portage and the Alt was where it is lol

I am an Arborist and the choices for trees in a downtown are very limited. Also we did try evergreens. Mayor Sosan Thompson tried it. They all were burned from salt after one season. The last one that was alive was take out a few years ago. It was on the west end of PP.

It's a decent filler building that's unfortunately situated in a very prominent spot. I'd love Alt if it were tucked away on Smith Street somewhere, or if it were finished with slightly nicer materials.

Stop putting down salt. Buy some winter tires.

We started running Nokian studded tires this winter.

If everyone used those, you wouldn't need to put down gravel OR salt.

They are incredible.

I had studed tire on my last car. They were fantastic, like you say. I just have all seasons on the latest car and have done pretty good the last two winters.

How many downtown parkades still have signs saying no studded tires allowed?

I don't think we have that sign at City Place. I don't know if the old Eaton's parking tower has them since the repaving project was completed.

One of our service reps was saying that Portage Place had that restriction still as the attendant came chasing after him when he pulled in there in December.
