The future is in per-km pricing, probably with higher charges for peak times and congested routes. But we could throw up automatic tolling stations at every road into the city tomorrow.

Where is Centre Venture in all this? Why not support all these hi rises and somehow link them together with public space, or at the least a face lift of Graham Ave. What is happening in Winnipeg is a exciting and they should be finding ways to encourage sales of these condos, commercial development, office space commitments, etc. RIDE THE EXCITEMENT! I could be wrong but I think the plan is for this to be connected to the inside walkway system downtown. And some sort of enclosed bus tunnel thing?

Based on those two factors, I think that would make a grocer in this location quite handy for people bussing home and living downtown. And in this climate? Call me a whimp but I dislike walking outside in -20 carrying grocery bags for any length of time.

Something like the family foods or a whole foods that sells produce in smaller portions and I can cut down or eliminate the amount of time facing a windchill? Sign me up. 🖊

Is there any issue with having the man power and equipment to handle this much construction at the same time? Good problem to have. Know nothing about construction...just wondering how all these towers can be under construction at the same time.

I don't think there should be much of an issue. EllisDon is building SkyCity. PCL is building TNS. Not sure who Artis has engaged. If they're short staffed locally, they can go to other provinces to get workers. Happens quite often in that industry anyways. People move around, go where the work is.

Yeah, these projects aren't that huge in the grand scheme of things. Centrepoint had crews from Quebec, they made it work.

Maybe on tower cranes. Those companies, again, will draw on resources they have and should be scheduling all this now. 1-2 tower cranes per location. Maybe if there's a shortage, they'll bring in crawler cranes. Similar to what 300 Ass did. I would think they could find the cranes somewhere. I don't think there's much else in the way of specialized equipment.

^ I would think all that gets factored into the cost of the project up front, I mean there are certainly a good number of tower cranes across the country and for the right price they can be had.

Bit of an article here in the Shun. Not much really new there. Myers confirming 2017 construction date and the 200 condo sold by end of year number.

If I recall my projects right, the tower crane for Alt and Glasshouse came from Minnesota.

The large crawler cranes that Sterling crane used to lift the roof trusses for MTS center (and take down the tower cranes) came from out of Manitoba (I'm thinking Ontario) and were re-assembled on site. It was interesting watching them put one together with smaller truck mounted cranes.

I've heard anywhere from "they're not even at 100 yet" all the way to "slow, yet steady/reliable momentum". I hope it's the latter.

Regarding the grocer, no major chain (which is exactly what everyone is implying with "grover") would come into town for less than 20,000. There certainly is a market for such a store, especially is SkyCity/TNS/Artis can accommodate a format allowing for online ordering and a pickup window. Daily foot traffic would be strong for sure.

I already regret the fact that my wife will almost certainly make me bring the groceries home all the time if that happens (she has been kind enough to do that all herself so far).

Well all we have to go off is the billboard and this post from their Twitter, from a couple months ago. I don't think we're going to get a for sure, for sure, for sure answer from anyone. As in, they're not going to show you the signed papers for each sale. So we'll just have to trust the numbers. I also don't think they'd fudge the sales chart, then have people come in and say "well actually we have all these other units for sale, too."
