So it's all going to happen except for the science wing on the north side?
Will it be connected to the underground tunnel so that visitors won't have to walk outside in -30 C weather to go to the new building?

Not much was said in last year's announcement.

Could be interesting to put an underground tunnel there as branch 1 of the Greater Winnipeg Water Aqueduct passes down Pacific towards the McPhillips pumping station.

I am not sure what the depth under the pavement is in that location but I have seen in City of Winnipeg tenders for sewer and water work on other parts of Pacific they are concerned about the strength of the pipe if its exposed or has work done near by.

OK, then if not a tunnel, then a skywalk.

I guess the existing museum doesn't resemble a giant iPhone enough to attract the attention of today's youth.

Why is the Planetarium being replaced with a "digital multimedia dome theatre" and what exactly is that?

It is the fancy name for a modern day planetarium. They are absolutely amazing. I went to the brand new one in Montreal. I think the difference is that instead of projecting the image, the roof is a screen. The experience was so immersive it was like watching an imax screen laying down. I went on a "tour" of the universe and it actually felt like you were flying in a spaceship looking out the front windshield. Like a digital roller coaster ride with amazing graphics.

Can it be demolished? Doesn't it have heritage status?

Tenderloin Meats on Main are expanding. Constructing a new building across the street from their current building. I believe they have a parking lot there.

^ Cool... I remember that was discussed a while ago, nice to see they're proceeding. There is a nice collection of delis, bakeries and other food shops up on that stretch of North Main.

^ That's really nice! What a huge improvement it will be over the dowdy old used car lot that it once was.

Ooh, that is really nice.

I hope the plan isn't to demolish the existing building and create a new parking lot.

Very nice. Although the font they're using for their address makes it look like it says ISIS. I had to do a double take.

Last I heard, that was indeed the plan—despite the fact that ample street parking is available 24/7.

^ I certainly hope not, but I seem to remember reading that that was the plan.

This stretch of North Main could use a few nice new buildings... it looks a little forlorn up that way, there aren't many post 70s buildings anywhere to be seen and the few that exist tend to be strip malls and fast food joints. Some nice design like this new Tenderloin store could improve the image of what is really quite a nice area... take a spin down Scotia and some of the classy boulevards around there for a look.
