I saw that as well. Guess that means progress as the billboard on Broadway and Portage says over 140 sold and that billboard just went up not too long ago. Within a month I would say.

Likely still hovering in the 150's.

They've updated the signs on site from 130+ to 140+ to 150+. Still at 150. So I assume they will continue to keep that number quite accurate.

New 40 story apartment block

I wonder if the (just announced) 40 story apartment tower on top of Winnipeg Square will have any effect on sales at SkyCity. It will be 1 full block away on the east side, affecting the east view somewhat. Still, it can't possibly compare to the beauty and amenities at Sky City.

I'm sure that SkyCity's marketing team will be trumpeting the fact that there is a residential neighbourhood springing up along Graham. It's a good way to provide reassurance to would-be buyers that they aren't taking a risky bet on a one-off project... three or four large towers in that area improves the chances that a desirable downtown neighbourhood will emerge.

It might cost SkyCity a few sales if some opt to rent instead, but if anything I think it will help in the long run.

I would almost want to see a slight reduction in units to get this tower going. I want the height, but I also want it built sooner than later.

Purely my own opinion. But it seems SkyCity shouldn't have any trouble meeting their goal of ~200 units by year end.

What I'm interested in at the moment is whats going on with the rest of it. Who's the grocer, who's the office/retail tenants. Wtf is going on with the St. Regis.

True. I want to see the St. Regis demolished sooner than later. It is unsightly. A gaping hole would be better.

But who knows, they could get stuck at 160. I think most of the cheaper units have been purchased. Its the more expensive and higher up units left. Plus they have 388 units total to sell, which is a lot.

I actually thought most of the higher up and corner units have mostly been sold. I would suspect they would have to be some of the more expensive units. My assumption is purely from memory.......which is getting worse every year.

There's maybe another 10 units sold on top of what the chart shows, which was posted a while back.

The Vaughan and the Albert are the smallest units and are not corners. They are the 2 units that are virtually sold out, shown in the outer columns.

I guess the most expensive units at the top are sold. But there's a lot of units left that are either in the middle price range or on the higher end.

Corner units are the Graham, Smith, Broadway and York. Tons of those suites available.

It's surprising to me that whenever I mention SkyCity to friends, almost no one knows what I'm talking about. They do a lot of promoting, advertising etc.
From their drawings and renderings, it is obvious they are aiming at hipsters. There is a huge market out there comprised of people close to retirement, or down-sizing empty-nesters. My opinion is they should reach out to them as well.

Seniors lived too long in a city with a dangerous downtown (at least that's how they perceived it and compared to most of the rest of the city, it was) Times change but most seniors just don't keep up with it. It would be a tough sell but that's just my opinion.

My now deceased Mom (1936-2010) stopped going downtown (invariably to the Franciscans) in and around 1988-89.

Back in '88 all we had to worry about were a Mr. Adair (deceased) and Margaret (lady with the gloves).

After that it was Grant Park, Polo Park, then Kenaston-McGillivray.

I could see this appealing to seniors if there is confidence in the neighborhood. You dont want to be somewhere with the perception of being unsafe and you dont want to have to bus to the suburbs. But if there is a real community feeling, nearby shopping an amenities, I could see it appealing to seniors, many of whom dont drive anyway and have some disposable income for a nice condo.

If I were a senior and could live, shop for food, get a haircut, etc, within the same building; that's a huge deal. If I'm mobile, skywalk link further expands the possibilities. Safety obviously is a concern if you're with a cane or wheelchair.. And if you need some form of assisted living, well obviously SkyCity isn't the place.

Something like Skycity would probably appeal more to empty nesters and the "young retireds" in that 55-70 range. I don't think people older than that would be very interested.

For what it's worth the apartments north of Portage Place (Fred Douglas Place, Place Promenade) were targeted at older folks who could go to the Y, the library, shop at Eaton's and The Bay, etc. all via the skywalk. No question that the senior presence is lower these days at Place Promenade, although Fred Douglas is still filled with seniors given that it's specifically meant for them... I'm guessing it isn't the draw that it would have been 20 years ago, though.
