Sorry to say, Water Front Square's 2 remaining high rises will not happen. I had asked the same question about 6 months or so ago. Another poster steered me to the article that stated the Developer wasn't going to build them. It seemed he just fizzled out on the project. I can't remember the specifics, but it's a no go, unfortunately.

I just googled WaterFront Square, and it brought up several articles, here's one if you would like to catch up.

Yeah, probably. In fact, recently, a friend of mine came into Philly after not being here for over 10 years. When I drove him back to the airport, going down I-95, he innocently asked, are those buildings "housing projects"? I saw what he meant. Sometimes a "cluster" of brick looking buildings can easily be mistaken for that concept.

It's understandable to think that, I've always thought they've looked horrible and are an eyesore.

Really? An eyesore? They aren't the most exciting buildings and I can see how 2 more could be overkill, but I've never thought of them as an eyesore...I also think they look loads better than housing projects. I was always just excited to have that type of density on the river and on the other side of 95 in what was a dead neighborhood.

I think the destiny is great for that area and it definitely improved the neighborhood, but the design is really dull and the materials look cheap for "luxury" condos. Maybe if something was done with the crown it would look better (instead of those boxes).

agreed. they are amongst the worst buildings generated by the pre-recession building boom in the city. Totally forgettable and bland design and they look unfinished. The original renderings looked better but it seems as if they made changes to reduce cost as the market cratered.

I think one of the issues is they stand out so much in the area. Nothing of size to compete. If half of the projects pre-2008 were built on the river as proposed they would stand out and would possibly compliment well.

The design may not be the greatest but I still love the way Waterfront Square just sits there out of nowhere and provides density to an otherwise nondescript area.

A little outlandish to think that the remaining buildings of Waterfront Sq would be completed ever. A more reasonable wish would be for the roofs to be completed. While I think calling the buildings in their entirety "an eyesore" is a little (and only a little) too much, I agree that the exposed, unfinished concrete roofs are indeed an eyesore.

It's a no brainer to touch up those hideous roofs and make them more aesthetically pleasing maybe add some exterior lighting as well . It would be good for the development and good for the city.

If I were the city council leader for that area Id be hounding the developer every day to do something there.

One Water Street has definitely emboldened some people. Some developer has been chewing on 10-18 Callowhill Street (i.e. the next lot after the next lot) for a little while. Before the go-ahead on One Water Street, they were being considered as four-story single family residences, which more or less fit with the rest of the buildings in the River's Edge neighborhood.

I recently, however, found this listing for the same property, with a somewhat more ambitious - if less realistic - structure to occupy the space. Yeah, and based on that rendering, I wouldn't go rushing to start a new thread on skyscraperpage just yet.

I'm still a little bummed that Renaissance Plaza vanished after all but getting the go-ahead. Not the most ambitious design, but I liked what they had planned for the ground floor.

I agree totally on the exterior lighting. These buildings look dead at night (adding to the project's feel). The area is quite vibrant many nights Sugar House, the Fillmore and other venues in the area, a little lighting could embrace the surroundings.

The redesigned warehouse where the 8th Floor (night club) use to be was rehabbed beautifully. From the parking to the roof top deck it is quite amazing to know what it was to what it turned into.
