Not Calgary's typical skyline but part of the industrial one SE of DT by the Bow River. I believe this is a Malting company building. Not pictured in here are several other tall industrial structures. You can see just a corner of the grain silos behind this building on the left. Part of Calgary's rarely seen gritty industrial area called Bonnybrook. They filmed several scenes from the Fargo tv series around there.

I believe only the one crane is for the Nova Centre; I think the other(s) were taken down recently. The concrete work is done at this point.

From left to right they're: Alexander, Maple (probably not at full height?), Roy (x2, one at full height and one not), Nova Centre, and Pearl.

Not sure how far off it is but there's a pair of projects on Barrington that would appear just to the left of the Roy cranes in that picture. One is a ~20 storey residential tower and the other is a 9 storey residential addition to a heritage building. The Barrington and Sackville area is going to look completely different in a few years.

Such a snob. What so offensive about the word "infill"? Toronto's planners use it. They also use metric. That must bother you too.

"Infill" is a real word in architecture/planning. "Filler" describes wood glue, or fanboy-speak for ugly buildings that are prominent enough to mar the skyline.

If not for the concept of proportion, Switzerland would be poorer than Brazil simply for having less millionaires

....

But as far as absolute numbers go, I was too conservative, because turns out Vancouver proper averages 928 house demolitions a year, while Toronto proper (>4 times bigger) averages 727...

Maybe it's time to find a new forum with less fanboys that identify ugly infill as filler.

Thanks for the info however, I already concluded that demolition numbers don't tell the whole story. Like my company, we do everything to avoid demolishing a house. It's less time and money to save a wall. Probably the same for Vancouver however, budgets are richer and the existing stock is absolute junk.

It's crazy how big an impact Le Solano's 19 storey phase has on the skyline. The Viger Square re-dev should have a similar effect.

I think I've said this before, but I like Vancouver's skyline better without the mountains the background. Actually helps the towers themselves stand out.

I know this angle always gets a lot of flack, but it was always my favourite angle of the Calgary skyline. When I come out to calgary every summer, I usually stop by maxbell to take some photos.

I hope Québec city build le Phare. I love the current skyline photos but they always showcase the same part of the city. Le Phare will be located 6km away from the '' traditional'' skyline.

They are going to improve the current design. I hope they will come back with ''Good taste'' design for good !
