The six-show Broadway season package

Nov. 15-20 » “Beautiful — The Carole King Musical.” The Tony- and Grammy Award-winning story of the songwriter’s rise.

Dec. 6-11 » “White Christmas.” Irving Berlin’s songs are the soundtrack for the stage adaptation of the classic holiday movie.

Jan. 17-22, 2017 » “— Boots.” A musical celebration of friendships and changing the world through shoes, featuring songs by Cyndi Lauper. The musical won six Tony Awards in 2013, including best musical, best score and best choreography.

Feb. 21-26, 2017 » “Matilda The Musical.” A stage adaptation of Roald Dahl’s novel about a precocious 5-year-old girl with special powers. The show won four Tony Awards in 2013, including best book of a musical.

May 30-June 4, 2017 » “Cinderella.” The lush Rodgers and Hammerstein musical’s revival is based on the songs written for the 1957 TV production, with a new book for the 2013 Broadway show written by Douglas Carter Beane. It won a Tony Award for best costumes. Well-loved songs include “In My Own Little Corner,” “Impossible/It’s Possible” and “Ten Minutes Ago.”

June 20-25, 2017 » “Dirty Dancing.” The stage adaptation of the cult classic 1987 movie about Baby and Johnny (starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey), set in a Catskill Mountains resort, features an eight-piece onstage band and hit songs such as “(I’ve Had) the Time of My Life.” Chicago Tribune critic Chris Jones called the U.S. touring debut in 2008 a “3-D replica of the movie,” unusual in that the lead characters, Baby and Johnny, dance but don’t sing.

Special shows

Dec. 1-3 » “Men Are From Mars — Women Are From Venus Live!” From off-Broadway, the comedy is based on the best-selling book by John Gray and will play at Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center.

Dec. 15-17 » “A Kurt Bestor Christmas.” The Utah composer transfers his best-selling local holiday concert to the new Eccles Theater.

Dec. 29-31 » “Cirque Dreams Holidaze.” A circuslike holiday stage spectacular featuring more than 300 costumes, 20 acts and 30 performers.

Feb. 2-5, 2017 » “Mamma Mia!” The show featuring the best-selling hits of ABBA returns to Salt Lake City on its farewell tour.

March 23-April 16, 2017 » Disney’s “The Lion King.” The show won six Tony Awards in 1998, including Best Musical, and features music by Elton John and Tim Rice.

Aug. 1-20, 2017 » “The Book of Mormon.” The raunchy, surprisingly sweet musical about mismatched LDS missionaries (by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, of “South Park,” with Bobby Lopez of “Frozen” and “Avenue Q”) is a long-running hit on Broadway and returns to Salt Lake City after a sold-out Capitol Theatre run last year.

I'd see it again. And it would be the third time.

The first time I saw it was in the Smith Center in Las Vegas, which seems to me to have a very similar layout to the new Eccles Theatre. It was a great place to see the show. Much better than it was at Capitol.

At some point someone here suggested building a purpose-built theater for BOM on 400 S Main that would only show performances of BOM. Like people could get one side of the Mormon message at Temple Square, then go down to the theater in the evening to get the musical. In between locals and tourists...

That's a pretty nice initial line up. I count 58 nights, for the first 6 1/2 months, Opening through end of May. While not yet on track to have lights on 250-300 nights a year, that's a good initial schedule.

I would guess they estimate many of the shows being extended depending on demand.

Some of those 250 nights will come from the local community and touring musical acts, which wouldn't be announced as part of the inaugural Broadway season.

I think they're installing the lighting in the crown.

I wonder if there is a schedule in place to clean and restore the façade of that beautiful little brownstone, now that they're finishing up on 111 and Regent Street? I noticed a few years ago that the façade masonry was in pretty dire condition. I thought at the time it wouldn't make much sense to clean it up until after the major construction surrounding it was completed.

Two banks? Wells Fargo on the NE corner of 100 S and Main, where is the other one in the picture? The Lobby of course will be one of the sources of foot traffic, there is a cafe that is open all day and later on event nights, at the south end of the PAC lobby.

Good point Future Mayor about the lobby. I would imagine that that particular lobby will be the source of a huge influx of traffic both day and night. Much greater than anything generated by all the previous businesses along that stretch combined. I can't wait to see what they come up with for the corner area on the west side of Main. When the west side of the street is developed to it's potential in the upcoming decade, that area of Main is going to be one very crowded area at times.

The large number of employees working in the new tower will add a lot of foot traffic, at least during the day. Just Goldman moving their employees from Research Park to downtown will be a boon.

I was assuming the lobby for the tower would be occupied by a bank. if not a bank, then just a lobby? So one bank and two expansive lobbies with one small cafe (hope it's more than just a coffee cart)? What would you say the distance between Forever 21 and the cafe is? And on a scale of 1-10, how would you rate the continuity of the urban fabric on the opposite side of main? Better get some street performers or food carts to fill in the gaps! In fact, that's exactly what the city should do: The City should lease the Zion's parking lot from Zion's, and fill it up with food carts!

The plans that were posted of the theater a while back seemed to show the whole southern half of the theater lobby as restaurant space. Maybe somebody still has those plans lying around somewhere.

It's a full service cafe, with a full kitchen, not just a warming kitchen. First you — that it's a bank in the lobby, but since it isn't a bank you're going to — that it's just a lobby?

The distance from Forever 21 on Main to where the cafe is roughly going to be is 425'-450'. No that's not an ideal distance, however SLC doesn't have the daytime or night time population to have retail every 15', it's simply not doable. I'd rather not have something in the lobby of 111, if doing so meant taking away from retail spaces from Regent St.

It's the massive amount of people working in 111 flowing onto Main St that will give the street life, and in the evening it will be the patrons to the EPAC that bring the vibrancy.

Does the PAC include an exhibition space for visual art? Exhibitions benefit so powerfully from the huge audience that performances can bring... Think Walker Center in Minneapolis. A multimedia capable gallery just off of the lobby would be amazing.

Future Mayor, speaking of the influx of evening traffic from the performances. I imagine there will also be quite a few daytime matinees available throughout the year, particularly for the touring Broadway shows.

I agree Old&New, the West side of Main is definitely under developed at this point. I do believe that with everything that is going on with the UPAC, 111, CCC and the upcoming CCH, that the Southwest corner area of 1st and Main will soon get some long awaited major development. That corner has now become way to valuable to leave as is.
