Construction worker dies after ice fell onto him in pit 31 metres deep

A 25-year-old construction worker has died after a large piece of ice fell off a wall and onto him in a construction pit about 31 metres deep on Preston Street, paramedics say.
The man was critically injured by the large chunk of ice at about 7:15 a.m., paramedics said.
It happened in the pit of a condominium construction site at 505 Preston St., near Carling Avenue.
Firefighters used a crane to perform a high angle rescue to get the injured worker out of the construction pit.
The man was lifted out at about 7:45 a.m. and was taken to hospital with critical injuries.
He later died. His identity has not been released.
