I went back and had another look at that new Starbucks at Burrard and Helmcken and it seems that the only exterior access is off the patio on Helmcken Street (see last four pics below). When I was there they still weren't open yet so they had stuff piled up in front of that door, perhaps to keep people from coming in. The only other way in may be by going in the door on the north end near the driveway on Burrard (first pic below).

Howe St is so bland & shitty it deeds all the help it can garner-doesn't look like that famously bland & overpriced cafe will help any though.

Thanks for those, that looks like a new design direction for Starbucks, I haven't seen any like that before.

It should do very well, at least until the hospital moves.

Imagine having a business that is so famous the world over that you don't even have to put your name out. Just some discrete logos and that's all that's needed to tell everyone what's going on inside.

Regardless of who's operating a cafe there it will be a big improvement to the streetscape to see some tables and chairs on this stretch of sidewalk. Maybe they can do something creative with the cinderblock wall.

They're still closed for the renos, which are actually happening according to Twitter. Summer weather is right around the corner, they've got the fountains going and it would be great if they could reopen sometime soon. There were enough people at the park today they could've had a nice little crowd. If we have some good weather on the holiday weekend coming up it'll just be a little strange to see the bistro all shuttered up. Over the years I've taken various family and friends there after long sight seeing walks and although the food was so so I can't think of a nicer place to park your butt to share a pitcher of beer (or three) and look at the mountains.

WRT Milestones @ Crossroads - a co-worker said she walked by and they were having a "hiring fair".

My guess is that the restaurant is a franchise and the franchisee was terminated, and the prolonged closure was due to a lag in getting a new franchisee (and new staff) in place.

In case it was was missed, the new Hawksworth restaurant at the MNP Tower is going to be called Nightingale. Here is the initial website: http://www.hawknightingale.com/

I'm trying to draw a picture of where this will be housed in the tower. I don't recall seeing restaurant space on the lobby level.

It believe it will be housed somewhere in the the ground-level space behind the saved heritage facade that the tower is partly built upon and might extend all the way back to the modern windows overlooking Cordova in the back.

Not sure if that's permanent or a health board closure (?)

When I walked by today the door was ajar so I peeked in and there was a sandwich board sign leaning against the wall inside that said they would be reopening on April 4th.

No violations at Milestones Crossroads according to VCH inspections website. Must be a renovation?

I think it was a change in franchisee.

I'd forgotten about the University Club space.

That will make a great space for a restaurant, I look forward to seeing (and tasting) what they do with it.

Nothing will happen until 2017

A few steps need to happen before construction starts, according to city of Vancouver employee Daria Wojnarski. The Park Board needs to sign the contract with Sequoia Company of Restaurants Inc and McDougall Holdings Ltd and then they have to have their restaurant design successfully go through the development permit process, Wojnarski said. It could take up to nine months to go through these two steps. The earliest construction could begin is 2017.

The new rendering of the restaurant is in this PDF:
