Apparently all the funding is in place, he's got a deal for the land, and he just needs the government to commit to build a few roads and a larger airport.
We're too stupid here in 'Peg City to go for something like this.

So I guess Regina SK is going to get it instead.

This guy would need major institutional banks, a sovereign wealth fund, etc level of funding, well into the hundreds of millions of dollars, to achieve this project. And yet they all want to remain secret.

Hold your cards close to your chest until you are confident in your plans? I suppose one's credibility is one reason for secrecy. It is anyone's guess how much foreign investment is part of the plan. It certainly is a step up from throwing a coat of paint on what used to be Alycia's, and converting it into a few rental units.

What a joke.

And Murray McNeill is almost as much of a joke for writing such a credible piece about it, unless his writing is dripping with sarcasm that I'm not picking up on.
Thing the Free Press got their dates mixed up, April 1 isn't for a few weeks!

Didn't someone say they have a kickstarter going? They'll have the money by Wednesday I'm sure.

Actually, with all of the money flowing out of China you never know.

This week, Anbang buys major hotels and tops Marriott's offer for Starwood. Next week, giant entertainment complex in Winnipeg...

if all of money is in place, then why would you need a kickstarter fund? And if all of the money is in place, why is it so mysterious and secret? Of course any government or government agency would want to see detailed plans and evidence of financial backing. I suspect he is working it at both ends, telling the government agencies he has the financial backing to get them to commit to infrastructure, and the supposed financial backers he will come up with all the infrastructure to get their money. Unfortunately, sociopaths do live and thrive in our society. Also surprised the FP actually wrote about this.

Whether or not this is just a dream, I think the fact that there was a press release (for whatever reason) says that dreamscape gets its own thread. There's clearly a ton of material to discuss with it, and personally I find this project shockingly legitimate(considering the scale, even the sliver of realism is impressive)

If it ever does materialize HERE despite how low the chances of government support are, it'll be done by the time I have kids. No more US travelling with the shitty inconsistent exchange rate LOL.

If I issue a press release about my own fantasy project, can we have a thread for that too?

Winnipeg should rename itself "East Vancouver" or "West Toronto" and watch the offshore cash roll in.

I don't believe it either. But then explain how some clown built West Edmonton mall way back when it was the same size as Winnipeg. I am sure everyone must have said that was just a funny joke right ?

Winnipeg is a better place for a thing like this then Edmonton being central and all. Close to the USA also. This place won't make its money off cheap assed winnipegers. It will be off tourists. And that's probably what they are thinking.

Also if it is oil money those guys don't care about a pissy 2 billion. We may just be a place to launder money like Vancouver is lol

If it's apparently privately funded AND secured, with land deals in place, actual designs done, and has a non negative article done about it by a quite credible press, then go right ahead and make a thread.

I never said it needed a thread because its going to happen, but only because this clearly will be talked about a lot. And as foolish as the developer may or may not be, they're serious. It's worth having a separate place to shit on, praise, or debate on the proposal.

An even slightly possible 500 acre domed park with secured private funding is kind of a big deal.

Do you honestly believe any of these things are true?

Consider the quote from Economic Development Winnipeg: "I'd love to talk to the people who are financing this" ... "If he can give us details, he's going to get support from my office. If he can't, we're going to have to wait until it's fleshed out a little more". Clearly he's provided absolutely nothing to back up his wild claims.

Also, his chief engineer seems to have a little less experience than might be required for such a massive project:
Quote:
Jessica Manness Engineering, Inc. is a newly formed company, but our experience has been built over many years of digging in the trenches, piling in the hours and cementing a solid foundation. Like water under the bridge, we have coursed a path, uniquely setting our footings onto a rock solid foundation.

As I was saying, the validity isn't the main point.
This entire subject is worth discussing on its own.
The fact that there's even a chance that this is fully funded just adds on to it.

We should be bantering about the chief engineer in a separate thread.

This exchange of posts itself is an example of why this subject could sustain its own thread.

That way, posters who don't live here also have a higher chance of contributing to the discussion we already started, but on a separate thread.

I think I'm done coming back into this though, I'm pretty sure everyone knows by now that all I'm pitching is a thread, not a celebration party that involves preordering units 12 years in advance for this like its a guaranteed build.

It's probably not worth bringing up this subject with Winnipeg posters. Their minds on this project are already made up that it will never see the light of day.

Don't beat your head on a brick wall of you don't have to.

There is no need for consensus on starting a thread, if someone wants to discuss the Dreamscape project then just hit the 'new thread' button. Frankly, it might be better having that stuff in a separate thread instead of clogging up this one.

Please feel free to start a thread if you feel it's worthy of discussion, off-topic, or a current thread can't be found for the particular content being discussed. One of the moderator(s) would make any changes if needed.
