I think I misunderstood you. The line is supposed to go down 2nd street before turning onto 10th ave. I was thinking along the lines of a big transfer station where the three LRT lines would all come within 80m of each other - I wasn't thinking of an intercity/regional rail station tied into just the green line.

Something like this, with best guess station locations and the red line shown in future Stephen Ave Subway alignment:

Yeah, and you buy out the ATB streetfront building for nice entry hall.

The City Hall/Olympic plaza station is angled somewhat NNE to WSW under Olympic Plaza, and originally planned as a four track, two platform station. The wide space under City hall is for a mega crossover to accommodate a tunnel to the NE line as well.

Are there maps available of any of this?

Yes, but I don't think they are on the city website anymore.

Something close to: City Hall Area Redevelopment Plan

It is a black and white document from the 80s that authorized the plan for the new municipal building, the Arts Commons, and Olympic Plaza.

If anyone wants to go look at it and take pictures it is at the Central Library.

well i hope that there will be some sort of central station because its going to look pretty ridiculous if there isn't, plus its going to be hard to transfer from the green line to other lines if you have a subways station and a at-grade station not being connected.

Ha. I remember uploading that or something similar on here a long time ago - though the original is lost to imageshack. No tunnels west of MacLeod I believe. No station box under City Hall.

Did anyone notice the Provincial Transit engagement?

http://www.alberta.ca/provincial-transit-engagement.cfm

"The Alberta government is committed to hearing about the transportation needs of Albertans living in rural and urban communities across the province. This information will help provide a better understanding of the varying public transportation issues, challenges and opportunities."

"Feedback will be accepted until April 29, 2016."

In response to this 5 years ago:
Rural Alberta bus service opening up to competition I think.

And GreenTrip turning from its innovative intent into just another municipal infrastructure program.

Funny, I just stumbled upon a very similar map on Google Books - from Unbuilt Calgary by Stephanie White, 2012, p. 101

Given that these people are already paying to ride CT I'm not sure where the City is going with this. What else are they after?

Now if they are looking at integrating different transit agencies (and I guess unlike Edmonton there is only one other one here and that is Airdrie) then I can see how they would like to coordinate fares etc. to promote seemless transfers. That would make sense.

Well, since the city is raising taxes on property to cover 1/3rd of the capital costs, I can see a case. That being said, people transferring onto a city LRT from a suburb bus are almost pure profit to the transit agency. Perhaps a 'special fare' for regional bus transfers that only allows LRT travel that is a little bit lower? Would mean no operating subsidy going to out of towners and a way to measure out of town transfers so as to transfer an appropriate amount of revenue to the capital account.

This discussion resurfaces every few years. I think it is "talk" in anticipation of some meetings on provincial transit funding in the near future.

in the coming weeks, Alberta transportation is having transit funding engagement sessions with municipalities and citizens. It is no coincidence that Calgary Council is now bringing up a need for provincial operating funds to cover the cost of "Outsiders" catching the LRT from the Parknride

The largest concern is the idea that Airdrie, Cochrane, Chestermere & Okotoks don't pay property taxes to Calgary but make daily use of Calgary infrastructure, notably the LRT. An expansion of the green line north or south will likely only increase the use by Airdrie/Okotoks.

Ideally the best way to accomplish this would be toll roads but this won't likely fly.

Toll the roads!!!!!

Edit: That was done in all caps, but evidently SSP has a anti-screaming algorithm. Damn you algorithm, damn you.

I don't suppose anyone has anything crazy, like, uh, data, to quantify this concern?

Pretty hard to measure for Park and Ride unless you were to run everyone's plates in the lots for a week. Easy to measure for connecting buses.

The city benefits from not having people on the roads just the same however. The CRP might be willing to tap into the regional collaboration MSI pot (if it still exists) to avoid this equity argument though. The LRT will save Airdrie and Crossfield operating costs of running all the way downtown.
