A. This will not be an available option for entry. Our guest’s safety is our main priority and proper security measures must be set in place. Each guest must go through a security checkpoint prior to boarding the monorail which will transport you to DreamScape. "

I'd like to see your last question put into the FAQ.

Also, the FAQ lacks the most important question of them all...Will Dreamscape have a laser pyramid?

^ Dreamscape is every Winnipeg idle daydream rolled into one... monorail, waterpark, weather-protected dome, amusement park, winter park, farmer's market... I swear it's like they ripped a doodle out of one of my grade 8 notebooks and put it on the interwebs.

Siloam Mission is meeting with the epc today to request support for their expansion. I wonder if the plans from 2014 are still relevant.

Freep says the plans have been revised/amended and will be revealed later... as I recall the original pitch was pretty ambitious so it'll be interesting to see what's changed.

Seen on the Twitter Siloam was asking for an additional $3M over the original $4M they are to receive. Plans have been changed.

It would be nice if they incorporated 288 Princess into the plan. I suppose that would require more funding though.

I heard West Edmonton Mall and Mall of America had many in disbelief it could become a reality.
With all the naysayers and pessimists in our province, we seem to also have a growing portion of dreamers so we shall see?
It seems almost too ambitious?
This would take so much money to build.
I would like to see it go ahead but I think it is more of DREAM. lol
I am wondering where it is planned for? I a guessing Headingley? near Red River Ex park? Hence lots of land and also rides etc.. plus Assiniboia Downs redevelopment with the casino and First Nations redo...was to have 2 hotels as this plane states..so could this now have become a part of that?
500 acres? It certainly is not anywhere near Downtown.
Most other malls would be in big trouble if this came to fruition with 600 stores? Yikes...
Likely Polo Park and St Vital would sort of somehow survive after survival of the fittest period and after people got their fill of this mega mall...and the rest of the malls would be reduced to a shadow of their former selves.
It looks so appealing and yet wonder if this is even a possibility at even half the size proposed?

The city should force them to make any funding contingent on the parking being behind the new building not beside it.

They scaled back the original design because they haven't gotten a commitment to funding from the province and want to get started. I guess the additional ask from the city is to cover the shortfall.

^ I thought Siloam would've been expanding the design, not scaling back. But if the funding hasn't gone through yet, I guess it makes sense. Not the scaling back part, but the asking for more funding from elsewhere part.

Here's an article with details. Will cost about half as much as the original plan:

$155 million is easy to find for a suburban underpass, but finding money for a homeless shelter?...sorry try again.

Affordable housing is critical, and the funding for this expansion would have been a much better investment.

The problem is that the government are terrible managers of affordable housing (ie. Manitoba Housing) and are reluctant to give money to a religious organization to provide such a service because voters will cry that they are disregarding the separation of church and state.

I disagree. I think it simply comes down to dollars.

Laws for most of the world are based on one religions beliefs. IMO there is no conflict between church and state, especially around here. The only real thing is the reading of prayer during council meetings. Which was debated and decided it will remain. That should be removed IMO.

But heck, the former Jewish mayor gave cash to a Christian youth centre, that is open for all youth to drop in regardless of religion. You're bound to run into these situations no matter what you do. Otherwise religion should be banished for all eternity so there is no perceived conflict.

I don't think it's a church and state issue at all. It's simply a reflection of the reality that the province and city are strapped for cash right now. Siloam is far from the only entity being asked to scale back plans right now.

It would be nice if a few of the city's largest companies donated for this expansion.

Yes, this.

Manitoba Housing is scaling back money it puts towards projects. Currently, they only want to fund project they have full ownership of, versus say, funding on a per door basis, as was the norm a few years ago.
