Should be. They were protected with plywood boxes for most of the last 5 years, I'd imagine they took them off so they can clean them up and restore them a bit.

Thanks, don't remember how many sculptures were put away, but now that the exterior of the original building is much smaller, wondering if there enough is room for all. A maybe option is to have the AGH display some of them in their proposed outdoor plaza.

What you see in the picture was all there was. Just 8 of them. The did not go anywhere, they just got covered up with plywood.

I'm assuming they'll be cleaning them up as well as installing new flagpoles in the old holders. The front ground floor of this dev is my favourite part. I love the building entrances along Main.

It's a little off topic, but I find high ceilings an odd selling point many places use. Once it's tall enough you won't hit your head all it means is a need to buy longer curtains and a harder time changing lightbulbs.

It brings in the tax money. Better than vacant buildings.

During the summer the patios get a decent amount of customers during the day. I go at least once a week with coworkers for lunch.

The bars are packed on weekends. I've outgrown that crowd but it does have a market for the late teens early 20 crowd.

It's more the idea of putting all the bars together like that, hence the term ghetto. Seems weird to me.

Some of the bars in Hess aren't actually so bad during the day in the summer but at night the whole place is just a no-go zone for me. It is slowly improving with each passing year as a more diverse selection of restaurants and bars open down there but it'll take awhile yet. The main strip along Hess is still largely made up of nightclubs.

Didn't it have a fair range of restaurants in the 90s? I don't remember so well as I was a kid, but I remember going out for dinner there a number of times.

Yes. And the bars were more like the pubs of Augusta St.

The patios were always a huge hit in the summer months and drew big crowds, but I think things started to go a bit far when some of the pubs were renovated and morphed into clubs. I was really surprised to see that when I came back to this area in 2006 (after only 6 years living away).

Hopefully the future brings some better balance.
