Did Syrotech close down?

I just called them a week ago asking about a SATA 1 hard drive for a 10 yr. old Lenovo PC.

No... They relocated to Sutherland near Main Street I believe.

With Canada Cartage's move and redevelopment coming down, South Point Douglas is definitely reaching a tipping point. I'd like it if the city put out some kind of community plan to usher the neighborhood forward. Nothing major, but little things like extending and improving the waterfront path, paving the sidewalk in front of graffiti gallery, and maybe a tax incentive to replace chainlink fences with something nicer would go a long way.

The City typically has the community plans set-out for all areas of the City. Not sure why there isn't one for Point Douglas. Especially since they looked at putting the stadium there. Which raised all kinds of questions about the directions of the neighbourhod. How could the industrial/former industrial be converted into some kind of residential district with commercial accents. How can the existing residential be connected to the industrial areas. That sort of thing needs to be figured out. Also the provincial park that is supposed to be planned for the east end of the point.

wasn't the Province turning the area into a Provincial Park or something?

It was.

As far from ideal as the U of M site is, I'm glad it was built there and not at Point Douglas... I don't think the organic regeneration of the area would be compatible with a huge football stadium.

Give it time... the redevelopment of the Canada Cartage site could have a big impact on the area.

Is the Canada Cartage site the one in which they're currently trying to lease out all the old buildings? Pretty sure it is. Isn't much of a redevelopment. Seems more of a "we moved to CentrePort and simply are bringing in tenants to pay rent."

I thought the redevelopment was changing the site to residential with commercial?

The Exchange condo's are slowly pushing north. It's not an overnight thing, but it's happening.

Well it looks to me, on the bus rides by, that the building have at least been painted and branded. There is some form of signage up on the buildings, including large for rent signs. Won't be busing until Wednesday this week, so I'll take a closer look then.
