SkyTrain Station Renovations

So it seems New Westminster is....not getting a new hoop truss.
Instead they have assembled some alternate frame that mimicked the original platform roof but supports itself and leaves the triangular mount for the truss unused.
They built two more hoops for Metrotown, was it really that hard to build one more?

Finally…. the Seymour Street entrance to Granville Skytrain station is open again. I don't recall seeing any differences though. I'll look more closely again next time I'm through.

Apparently the station gate broke down at that entrance... and I think the new black fencing is supposed to be a stop-gap solution.

I really think they should just use doors instead.

Ya the symour entrance needs a major make over. glass and doors or something. they could do it for well under $1M and it would drastically improve the look and feel of the entrance.

I like the openness of the entry without doors, especially if carrying parcels, etc.

If they put in a door, I hope they make it so homeless people can pretend to hold them open.

Okay, I've been through the Seymour entrance to Granville Station a couple of more times now and I've looked really close and the only difference I can see is this newish looking section of black grate behind the red railings. This entrance was closed for months so I was kind of disappointed to see the same old dirty and run down stairs and walls. I thought it was getting a major makeover or something. There has to be something else that would have caused them to close it for so long.

Isn't that the same excuse they used for that fence in front of the north entrance to Commercial-Broadway Station? That's been there for years.

What bothers me is there is already shutter grating there. The fence isn't at all necessary.....

Plus it's now the red handrails....with the glass panels...and now the damn fence behind it. We get it. You don't want people falling over the railing in the event they somehow manage to fall over a 4' railing.

TransLink just 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵, not just with cosmetic maintenance in general.

It is a major transfer point, so there is a lot of on/off traffic. With a third platform, people can simultaneously disembark and board - one side will be for each. This can reduce dwell time, or increase the utilization of the cars (more time to fill to capacity).

The SDM is still open. The doors are at the SW corner of the store, to the west of the boarded up area.

I had yet another close look at the entrance today and the roll down gate looks all new from the inside. So, new gate and black grate behind the red railing but I still wonder why it took months to get that done.

It's probably a custom gate that had to be ordered and manufactured.

Does anybody know if they are planning on adding access to the Millennium Line platform from Grandview as part of this renovation? If not, is it planned for future renovations? I think this would remove a detour and congestion which will be needed especially when they extend the line.

It would be good to plan for an eventual entrance at the corner of Grandview and Commercial. Or perhaps even one at Grandview and Broadway in the far off future.

Skytrain should look into having some of these vertical platform barriers installed. It could work with their different train lengths..and reduce the number of medical emergencies.
