Retail Insider mentioned today that the Saks Off Fifth will open at Hudson's Bay in Fall 2016. The store will be 33,000 square feet.

Where is this Saks supposed to fit? Is it a 'store within a store' concept?

with the exception of LRT access will the Rideau centre expansion be complete sometime this year? Any idea when?

I believe it is scheduled to be completed sometime in August/September of this year.

I'm guessing it will take the basement of the Freiman Mall, separate entrance but you can think of it as a store within in a store. They did the same thing for Saks store at Eaton Centre, they took part of the Bay.

And speaking of that side, they have blocked partially the north sidewalk on Rideau starting this week, while working on the facade portion which used to be the former western pedestrian overpass.

Mid-August is what someone at RC told me the other day. It'll be a pretty exciting day... The conversion of Rideau St and the pedestrian concourse on Nicholas should essentially be done in time also!

We're in the tail end of this project now. Can't believe its been so long already. It's been a great ride so far...

Not sure if previously mentioned, but from reading the posted permit, Ted Baker is taking over the former Shepherd's space between Kate Spade and Michael Kors.

That`s good news. I really got to appreciate the quality of Ted Baker while I was working at Nordstrom. Sold a good amount of it.

It's official. Ted Baker.

Here are some other changes. Sirens vacated their location on the second floor for one on the lower level next to a new HMV. You can see in the second pic below that their new location is almost fully stocked. Their old location was one of the biggest in the mall. It'll be interesting to see who takes it over. All the big spaces need tenants- the old Sirens, the old Grand & Toy, the old Club Monaco, and soon Zara.

Coach is also renovating and a Fernandino hair dresser is going in next door.

Sports Experts is expanding to a two level store, taking in the former Grand and Toy and Hallmark units on the third floor. They are also incorporating the former hairdresser shop besides their existing store. This info from a Sports Experts employee.

I'm just wondering - are rents higher on the 3rd floor vs. the 1st floor? It seems there is an income level disparity between levels.

The exception would be on the Mackenzie King approach, but that section has had foot traffic drop dramatically (from my own observations) as it is quicker to go to the bridge through Nordstrom to reach express and Transitway buses.

Out of curiosity, do you know if it will keep the Sports Experts Brand, or do away with it in favour of it's parent brand, Sport Chek?

CF seems to put higher end brands on the top floor. Eaton Centre is the same. Seeing how sad the third floor is at Bayshore I can see why.

It is commonplace for most large malls to put the expensive floors on the top level. Even just going up an escalator or two makes it more of a "destination" lol

There isn't really a parent/child brand relationship between Sport Chek and Sports Experts. They are siblings, really. Sport Chek are the corporate stores, owned and operated by FGL (Formerly the Forzani Group), while Sports Experts are the FGL franchised stores. And of course FGL is owned by Canadian Tire.

When did the relationship between Sport Experts and Sport Chek come about? We don't have them in this area, but I always considered Sport Experts to have better and more knowledgeable staff back in the day.
