I'm not sure why, but I'm really pumped to see the Hampton Inn project move forward. Midtown needs more hotels, and this is a great location.

I agree and the truth of the matter is this is not a Ritz Carlton, but it certainly looks better than most Hampton Inn & Suites.

The former Sprint store in Viewpoint will definitely be a QuikTrip, set to open within a few months:

http://www.tonetoatl.com/2016/03/exclusive-quiktrip-planning-gas-less.html

Interesting to have another "world first" of sorts (it will be the only QuikTrip with no fuel pumps). Midtown seems to be attracting retailers looking to experiment with formats. The Whole Foods under construction on 14th is another example (flagship store).

The QuikTrip in Midtown will be a great addition...livable neighborhoods need c-stores and QT is a high quality one.

Great news on the Hanover project at Peachtree and 7th. What a lively stretch of Upper Midtown that has become with Metropolis, Viewpoint, Spire, 7th/Peachtree Condos, Skyhouse South, and the other historic residential conversions that have contributed to the area's vitality along with the retail/restaurants...I remember when it was mostly parking lots, empty buildings, and bars from 10th down to the Fox. The transformation there has been nothing short of amazing.

http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/print...drops-millions-for-buckhead-village.html

Edens is buying up a lot of property in Buckhead Village. This is the same developer who had plans for redeveloping disco Kroger.

Quote:
99 West Paces Ferry Road: JLB Partners bought a 3-acre collection of low-rise commercial buildings for a new mixed-use project anchored by a residential building. Sources say the developer paid almost $30 million for the site.

77 West Paces Ferry Road:Edens in 2012 bought Buckhead Market Place for about $40 million. The nearly 4-acre shopping center is anchored by Whole Foods Market.

56 East Andrews Drive: Edens in 2014 bought the entertainment and shopping center Andrews Square for $19.1 million. Redevelopment could soon kick off.

3172 Roswell Road: An unknown developer is in the early stages of planning a project at the former Rio Bravo restaurant site.

102 West Paces Ferry Road: Terwilliger Pappas has been in talks to redevelop a 4-acre site that includes retail businesses such as Flywheel Sport. The developer is looking at a mixed-use project with apartments, retail and possibly a hotel.

3116 Roswell Road: The Hanover Co. is underway on a residential building with street-level retail on a 1-acre site next to the Buckhead Theatre.

61 Irby Ave.: Alliance Residential Co. is planning a 12-story apartment building at the site of the long-time Henri’s Bakery and Café.

A few building permitting updates from 3/10:

Building permit was approved for a "pedestrian access" project for the Highland Park development (the new townhomes along the Beltline in Inman Park). This will be a paved sidewalk to the Beltline, which will be great for additional access to Highland Ave. Now if only we could get some eastern access points in Midtown between Ponce and 10th...

The building/arborist review plan was approved for the demolition of the Drew Eckl & Farnham building, to be replaced by a 22 story apartment building at 880 W.Peachtree.

Ponce City Market applied to install metal canopies over the doors on the south and west sides of the buildings.

It's kind of amazing how much is going on, just yesterday alone 282 building permits were applied for or approved, ranging from new single family homes to office renovations to new businesses.

Wow the comments. Some people are fickle. I don't see how a QT retail venture will "lower property values".

I love all the construction in midtown but a small part of me really misses late nights at Backstreet and staying at the fleabag hotel across the street. Those were some good times.

Totally. It's a convenience store. They are sprinkled throughout all major cities. I live right there and I'm excited for it.

Especially so, if they're open 24/7 like their gas stations.

It's a valid concern... like another commenter pointed out, no truly urban city has big name convenience stores. Just imagine how liveable and valuable the Manhatten market would be if it weren't for the 7 Elevens everywhere

I've seen 7 Elevens in high-rises/mid-rises in Northern VA, Bethesda and Washington DC. Drunk late night Slurpee's were a staple back in the day living up North.

Edens wasn't proposing to redevelop Disco Kroger- that was Equity One
