I like the idea of the logo on the ceiling in the locker room.

If you don't want people to walk on the logo, don't put the logo on the floor.

Haha, my thoughts exactly. I don't know why teams get so worked up about that when every playing surface has a logo that no one thinks twice about running/skating on.

What a great looking facility!

The Canadian Cathedral of Football. Only the Riders could get away with that level of quality (Eskies could also).

Putting big cash into player facilities pays for itself. Many times that is a big selling point especially for imports who come from big programs with gold plated training centres. You dump $10 million into a facility and that can attract much more value in talent.

Why would it be at parliment hill? I Remember this one time in ottawa they built a 25,000 seat stadium expandable to 40,000...Cant put my finger on it....OH YEAH lol

Seriously though I realize the backdrop would be incredible but why build a one event stadium when you have TD place ready

It's the idea that's been floated around. It's Canada's 150 and would be easily the most picturesque of any of the outdoor games the NHL has put on. If one was going to be optimistic they would have outdoor games at TD Place (Ottawa 67s and/or Gatineau Olympiques & OttawaU/CarletonU) whilst the NHL/Alumni games take place on Parliament Hill.

Could be the NHL's answer to the KHL's game at the Kremlin, although personally I have a hard time imagining the NHL would stage an outdoor game in a setting where they couldn't soak tens of thousands of fans for premium-priced tickets.

Those stands are tiny.

You could probably fit temporary stands for 30,000 (and maybe 40,000) people and an ice rink onto the Parliament Hill lawn if you wanted to.

Where would Montreal play an outdoor game? The Big O isn't outdoors, and it seems that the idea of holding the outdoor game in a venue the same size or smaller than the regular home rink like Molson, Saputo or Uniprix is anathema when the whole point of these events is to enable the NHL to cash in with a massive gate. (You didn't really think it was about "heritage", did you?)
First world problems when the Habs home ice is so big many outdoor stadiums are smaller in capacity.

In regards to Toronto they still don't know how they will pull it off. The NHL hasn't announced the Winter Classic yet for this reason. Toronto does not know if it can actually host a event at BMO in January. It isn't build to be a year-round facility.

Things like pipes freezing and not having working washrooms are a real issue.

I highly doubt the Government of Canada would care to have 30,000 hockey fans stomping around the front lawn of Parliament. I'd be shocked if they had more than 10,000 fans there, max. I'd honestly expect a number perhaps closer to 5,000.

I think you'd be surprised. You have to remember this is being targeted for Canada's 150, a government initiative. The lawn can hold up to 30K IIRC structurally. The only issue really is security but if the game is played near New Years it won't be that big a deal as no politicians are in Ottawa over Christmas holidays and government business is usually shut down during that time.

Regardless, at worst a 5,000 temporary stand rink on the Hill is prettier than a rink inside a baseball field similar to what's been done before in Boston, Chicago, etc.

I am pretty sure that there can be in the range of 100,000 people on the Parliament Hill lawn during certain peak times on Canada Day.

Obviously that's not in a seated stadium configuration, but there is room for lots of people there.

OTOH, the feds are apparently looking at moving the main Canada Day celebrations away from Parliament Hill.

I am not sure if this is related to the upcoming megayears of major renovations to the buildings (though not to the Centre Block for 2017) or if it's to be a permanent relocation.

But I am sure they'd be able to accommodate the NHL Winter Classic if there was an interest on the part of the Sens and the NHL.

Temp stands are extremely expensive alone, but now your adding food, trucks, washrooms, locker rooms, production facility ect. Your overhead would be much much lower in td place which is ready and willing for this type of event. Line it up with the Grey cup that I'm sure Ottawa is anticipating and it just makes way too much sense. parliament hill can host some festivities if need be. But Honestly landsdowne park was built for it. It also gives OSEG an opportunity to get any changes/upgrades (endzones what have you) paid for or partially paid for.

Parliament hill is a great idea, don't get me wrong! what a setting it would be. But the point of an outdoor game is too make money so if your building a one time use 30,000 seat stadium for 2 games you're probably gonna lose money. landsdowne has all the right stuff for such an event beyond the stadium itself, room for a stage for some locals bands or the 10,000 seat arena, a ton of empty indoor space with the old pavillion, a few out door rinks, it already has restaurants, coffee shops, hotels near by. no brainer for me

Haha, I swear someone could post an offhand reference to TD Place deep in some thread about a new condo building in Jakarta, and this guy would be all over it within moments

But with the temp seating, I agree with oilkountry, I'm not sure it really adds up. Even at the IGF game in Winnipeg the Jets won't be adding temporary seating to a stadium that already has all the necessary infrastructure because they say it's not worth it with all the costs involved. So you'd have to wonder how Ottawa could put up an entire temporary 25,000 seat arena and not lose their shirts unless they were charging something like $1,000 a pop.

If they do the Parliament Hill game I would expect a KHL-like setup where you have a few thousand fans to provide a little atmosphere but Parliament itself would be the focal point of the setting. Otherwise, might as well just go to TD Place.
