With that, that small isolated triangular island will join with Firestone's parcel to allow for a larger rectangular footprint for the propose student union.
But where will cabs double park next to buses and let their customers out into the middle of the street?

The one thing I am cautious about this plan is the base for all the 300-400 ft high rises. The larger towers seem to have a smaller base which is good, but the smaller ones have bases that take up whole blocks. I know that these towers will be mixed use and that the large base is most likely for larger sq ft. for offices and labs, but they will look less attractive in real life than in the renderings.

Depends on how old you are now..I might make it, but will be pretty ancient by then..

I will be in my late 40's by the time Schuylkill Yards gets done

Amid soda tax commotion, Kenney plans to build German-Philly business pipeline

Quote:
In a budget address where Mayor Jim Kenney focused heavily on the funds a soda tax will generate for his pre-K plan, a promise to "continue to expand Philadelphia's international profile" points to the administration's goal of drawing more foreign companies, particularly German and Asian firms, to the city.

"We will soon be hiring a director of international investment who will build on [Councilman Oh's] efforts, increasing export activity and attracting new businesses to locate in Philadelphia," Kenney said.

"This year, the big focus will be on Germany," she said. A trip will include stops at our latest "sister city," Frankfurt, and Stralsund, where a World Heritage meeting will take place.

Follow-up to the work already done in Israel will also occur.

"And next year we will probably be focused on Asia," she said. City officials have already hosted leaders from Taiwan and China, and invitations to Taiwan and Yangzhou, China, have been extended.

Philadelphia skyline of the future?

Just spitballin'... but with the new Schuylkill Yards news, it got me thinking that what if every tower planned/proposed/under construction that we have seen renderings of, whether you personally think it's getting built or not, was built today? Just goes to show how towers of even modest height would have an enormous impact east of City Hall.

Even 1601 Vine Street at 370 feet should have an impact

AND , since we're just " spitballing " .... how about adding some of those long lost biggies
that wound up in the " canceled " bin . Let's move a few of those towers from their original
locations ( due to up dated development locations ) and put them in some available areas .
...... I use the term " available " loosely...... So starting with that big — — that occupied
this web thread for about 3 years ..... The 1510' American Commerce Center @ 23rd.& Cherry .
The 1050' Center City Tower @ 18th.& Wood . The 890' 17th.& Vine tower @ 8th.& Vine , and
610' Mandeville Place at it's original location or at .... oh I don't know , maybe 8th.& Market
..... Add these " once upon a timers " to summers wish list , and what do you have .....

Oh ,by the way , SUMMERS , great work , thanks for taking the time , putting in the effort and
posting this damn neat list ........

I wasn't getting starry-eyed. I'm just noting that even buildings that would rank below the fiftieth-tallest would make an outsized impact in high-rise deprived region east of city hall (and north for that matter). Aramark really stands out in its context, but is way down the list in height.

.......... Sorry if I came off as busting anyones chops . I have the up most respect for all who contribute to this
site ..... Obviously that includes you ....

Guess I got caught up in the game . However , one of my more nauseating disappointments involves a tower
that I didn't mention ....... The incredible shrinking tower formerly know as the Bridgemans View Tower . It
started out at 915' and dropped to 715' and finally , ground zero .

I never liked it's location but have wondered what it would look like ( at either height ) at 8th.& Callowhill .
........ just sayin' .

Oh ,by the way , SUMMERS , great work , thanks for taking the time , putting in the effort and
posting this damn neat list ........Thought I would mention that again ......

I didn't take it that way. I'd love to see some of those old ideas get dusted off too, but that wasn't my point. Even proposals that would be the shortest tower of Schuylkill Yards would make Market East, etc., look incredible.

Wasn't Bridgeman View tower suppose to be built along Columbus Ave, close to Waterfront sq?

Yup. I think he was saying that it would've been better on the other side of 95.

That's the best part about both Schuylkill Yards and the proposed capping of the rail yards: both have a proposed timeline which will enable me to see their completion during my lifetime!

I'm 20 now. By the time SY is complete, I will be between 35 and 40. The capping should be complete sometime in my 40s. I plan to live in Philly for the long run (I plan on entering either the Finance or Real Estate industries), so I will see this go from proposed to completed! I can't wait to tell my future kids and grandkids about how I would have never dreamed of University City having its own skyline when I was living in West Philly as a kid during the early-to-mid 2000s!

This probably isn't the final product, but here is what the proposed 30th Street District Plan looks like so far...

Interesting that this shows the Riverwalk development. Brandywine has included it in several thing now. I wonder if they know that the developer of that site is really committed to building it. I sure hope so.
