Will the new trains be seeing service before the Evergreen opening?

edit: Nvm, Translink on FB is saying they'll be in by the Summer!

From TransLink Twitter Feb 14, 2016:

If you're referring to the infotube, they're being replaced with these!

Temperature does not cause sickness. Filtration, diesel fumes and mold might.

Well whatever the case may be, passengers are getting sick.

I've been on a few of the newer buses where it's upwards of 20ºC, in January when everyone has heavy coats and sweaters. It's been suffocating, nauseatingly hot.

Probably explains why I almost fainted not long after getting off one.

Wow, looks like the first video of a Mark III SkyTrain on the Millenium Line doing testing, first time you can see and hear how these new trains sound:

Similar propulsion to the 1300 series. Guess that seems standard.

Is it "just" a jumper? There were several emergency vehicles and police advising that it will be shut down for several hours. Seems like more than normal, no?

those sliding doors, like what most other transit systems have around the world, would be useful...

doesn't have to be exactly like the MTR in HK...anything that would prevent people from jumping, etc, etc. though what they have with London, HK, would be ideal. i know, people are going to say, it's not feasible with this system, etc, etc.

surely, translink can come up with something....

We can counter-argue about the door lengths. Just have the doors adjust to where the train stops. Seen in Japan where the doors open on trains of different lengths.

They can sure come up with something if we can give them some $$$. Somewhere around half a billion or so...

And remember that adding more complexity to the system just provides another mechanical system to malfunction (and repair and maintain).

Universal systems like a rolling garage door from the ceiling that are not dependent on door spacing would probably add delay to loading and unloading (goodbye 90 second frequency).

...and if it were put to a vote (which seems to be the "thing" for transit these days) do you think people would prefer the money to be spent on that or on other changes that would actually improve mobility for transit users?

This is the off-again/on-again argument about having the doors at all. It's an independent mechanism, and the doors can cause just as many injuries as not having them.

Like because the Skytrain has such high frequency to begin with, having the doors doesn't make sense since they would just be open 1/3 of the time.

On the other hand, some kind of sliding door system (think about sliding closet doors) where the platform can move the doors depending on the train would work, it's just, again, a question of if the doors create more injuries than not having them.

I'm pretty sure we're far below the threshold in terms of jumpers where we require gates. We're going to lose a few people no matter what.
