Closed for renovations, or 'renovations'?

Hmh, I have to admit that I had no idea that there is a restaurant hidden in there.

Hopefully they'll install their own washrooms so you're not forced to use the icy cold and unsavoury public park washrooms next door.

Ideal spot, but not great quality food or amenities.

Seriously? They were able to get away with that?

There's a sign up on Cambie (near 7th) between Hubbubb and Running Room for "Pepper Lunch".

Yeah, it's been up for several months now. I believe that they are a Japanese chain, and I think that they already have a location in Richmond.

Pepper Lunch is indeed a Japanese chain with a location in Richmond. Pretty decent, simple cast iron cooked beef with a side of rice, some spices (pepper, I suppose), and bean sprouts. Simple, hearty, slightly oily lunch. The kind of lunch that makes your clothing smell.

There's a For Lease sign up so maybe no redevelopment in the near future.

I think Social Corner (formerly Subeez Cafe) at Homer and Smithe is at least partially open. I just took a quick pic today.

Yeah, I walked past and the cafe on the Homer side seemed pretty busy late in the afternoon.

I took these pics today of the building that used to be the 401 Senior's Centre at Dunsmuir and Homer. Looks like JJ Bean took the spot next to the alley. Next to it is going to be Field & Social.

UBC's sustainable restaurant bites the dust after six months. Would be a case study for some business students on how not to start a business.

Quote:
Before construction started on the new AMS Student Nest approximately seven years ago, a campus-wide survey was conducted for UBC students to determine how the space was to be utilized. One result was a contemporary dining space on campus, featuring fresh local ingredients, which became Perch. After six months in operation, it became apparent that Perch did not catch on with students. The traffic required to fund these vital on-campus services did not materialize.

JJ Bean has a good habit of finding character spaces.

Good to see that students are careful with their money.

They took the non-profit idea to heart.

Cool, it is nice to see that area vitalizing. I just have no clue where the Whitespot and now JJ Bean draw their customers from, as there is very little residential in the immediate area. I have never been inside that location, so I cannot say if they are doing great or not.

In other news, did I see correctly that there is a second Downtown Five Guys opening on Thurlow, just below Red Robin and next to the new Aritzia megastore?
