I was actually in EV today and noticed a building I'd never seen before. It's nothing fancy but there is a white Art Deco building that looks about 2 floors right beside that fugly concrete parkade right next to the lrt tracks. Anyone know what it is? Hopefully they manage to keep it as these small character buildings add a bit of grit and interest to all the shiny new glass towers,
This one?

Embassy Bosa purchased that site from CMLC. Although no development plans have been announced for that site, can't see that building being part of their redevelopment plans. Of course, I could be wrong.

Velo will be very similar to N3, but the scale will be a bit different as it will have 200 units vs. N3's 167.

Thanks for the info. Yeah it's days are numbered then. It's not interesting enough to survive development. I just hope they don't lose the little the area has left for small buildings. CMLC is going after that gas station too.

Of the land that CMLC owns, I suspect you can only count on the Simmons, Hillier Block, King Eddy, and St. Louis as being buildings which will be maintained.

Of the privately held blocks, a lot of which are along 8th and 9th Ave SE it's more difficult to say what might see redevelopment in coming years. I suspect a lot of the lower density buildings could see redevelopment, just given how the land values in EV have changed.

It reminds me of this significantly more interesting one in Olds

This has a bit of Art Deco feel, perhaps more, and is significantly smaller

Also this 1904 house (last house in the EV) would be interesting to keep (privately owned)

Thanks for the info. That example you listed in Olds is more interesting also. I think it just caught my attention cause I'd never seen it before.

There's a couple drilling machines on site, materials piled up and it looks like the perimeter concrete/retaining wall has been poured. Aside from that, I don't think construction has started.

CBE hosted an open house tonight to discuss their preliminary vision for the redevelopment of the Booth Centre in EV.

They are proposing a 'Centre for Innovation' - a mix of commercial, institutional, and residential uses. Appears as if they have submitted an application to the City for a land use amendment to allow for a greater emphasis on institutional uses than what the current zoning calls for.

Maybe a school? How long has it been since a school has been built inner city?Like a K-6 school.

Or they could relocate chinook learning services to that site.

For anyone interested in more information on the CBE owned site in East Village (Booth Centre).

http://mtalink.com/uploads/news_pdf_42.pdf

You can see the emphasis they are placing on cultural/institutional uses at this location(in addition to commercial and residential). As such they are arguing for more allowable density on the site.

Booth Centre is a shithole right now. Hope they fix it up nicely.

First panels on the Hilton look to be up now:

Booth Centre won't be part of their redevelopment plans aka it will be demolished at some point.
