I wonder if there's any thought of re-locating that sub-station? As a high density residential property, it would be worth more than 100 million, and bring another 1000 residents to Chinatown and the DTES. Plus that electrical yard is a serious eyesore.

Way too much money. Although spending $100-200M for a single block of park would be a better use of funds than the rest of the Viaducts project.
You have to remember, houses and condos are pretty simple regardless of how fancy an architect wants to be. Infrastructure can get immensely expensive very quickly.

Archives pic from demolition of the old Georgia Viaduct.
The existing raised planter next to the substation seems to approximate the elevation of the bridge approach.
This Bosa rental building looks great - better than Keefer Block or the Westbank one IMO. I hear a small grocery store is coming to the ground floor retail, Bosa has been advertising their rentals as being above one...
Interestingly, they don't mention a grocery store.
They are advertising the corner location for a restaurant (3000 sq feet) and a bank is taking the space on Main. Only leaves a 1100 sq feet unit facing East Georgia.
Ya too expensive to move, it's unfortunate that it stretches right to the sidewalk.
lets move the burrard nelson sub station also. Oh wait we would have to rip up half the downtown streets and reroute all the duct banks, buy land and build a new building.
What has happened in the past few years is hydro/transit have been selling of bare land around rectifier buildings
hmm, I guess there has been a change, because I had seen grocery store in their promotional materials. how disappointing... there isn't really anything around here apart from the markets in Chinatown.
Yet another bank... thrilling! There's already the BMO in the Westbank development. My guess is Vancity.

T&T is 2 blocks away. Costco is 3.
If the banks are moving, then there is going to be a vacancy somewhere else in Chinatown since all the major banks are already represented. It's a wash basically.

"245 E Georgia Street is a nine storey infill project on a 25' wide site in Vancouver's Chinatown. The design is for 40 studio apartments ranging in size from 320 to 360 square feet and a commercial unit at the ground level. All units have floor to ceiling glazing with either juliet windows or a balcony, there is also a communal roof deck providing opportunities for urban agriculture. The building provides compact, well designed housing while responding to the heritage of Chinatown and mitigating the drawbacks of inner city living."
These sorts of tall and thin buildings like the Flats on Georgia are what should be being built in Chinatown. They look great and suit the history of the neighbourhood.
The recently built stuff on Main is trash that should have stayed in Yaletown.
