Of course, the City has made so many illogical decisions I'm close to giving up hope for a better city of the future. In this case, I totally agree that the area north of East Hastings should be kept industrial since it's so close to the railyards and port. In fact, the industrial parcel north of Olympic Village should be rezoned to commercial/residential, since it is close by downtown, and to the major transit routes.

Thanks for the updates. I love small infill projects like the Kingsway one. They add a lot to a street and offer much better long-term opportunities for interesting retail spaces than the monotonous identical inline retail units of a larger/longer building.

With MEC moving (at least potentially) to the OV area, does anybody know who owns the MEC building? That's a big chunk ripe for redevelopment.

I like it! It's like a squat "The Independent". It makes that corner look a whole lot more urban, a mix of old, character commercial buildings and then this taller residential building that plays the corner lot quite well.

Lmao the "no tower" people. I'm looking at the third rendering thinking "where's the tower? Oh it's on the right.. No wait that's been there for 40 years". Baffles my mind how they think this is "inappropriate" for the area

I think that this height is better for the area! Nice renderings, nice massing and design.

Thanks for posting. I think it fits nicely as well. I like the lower portions especially. I understand the worry that this could get the ball rolling for taller buildings in the area, and ultimately turn this unique neighbourhood into yet another clone of so many other parts of town.

But some of the claims are just silly, like how this is going to dwarf everything in the area - yet there's another small high-rise right across the street. The article just adds to the hysteria describing that "the complex will consist of three connected towers." Anyway, I'm all for it.

Only a part of it is social housing (I think it's the building fronting Venables). Boffo partnered with the Kettle Society and is asking for extra density to pay for the rebuilt and additional units on the site.
