I was thinking today that Portland actually has a couple buildings with pretty good architecture. If only the Fox tower was like 350-400 feet taller, it could be this city's iconic tower (the curved side at least). It's by far my favorite high rise in the city. Portland just needs something pushing the 700 foot mark to give the skyline that extra "wow" factor that it's lacking.

The smART tower got my hopes up and then were eventually dashed harshly.

I'd still like to see that concept become reality. This would look great near the Broadway bridge, maybe the Pearl PO site?

The Kobe Tower.

If we are going to have a Hyatt, why can't it be "as nice" as Colorado's Hyatt CC Hotel? (Even this one could be much better!)

It's expensive to build a CC hotel, and while the Austin one is cool, we're limited to square blocks. The Hyatt/Hyatt Place proposal isn't that bad, and would be nice because it would serve two markets.

I worked in the hotel industry for a bit, so maybe I'm biased, but I constantly heard people mention wishing that Portland could support their convention. I think we'd do well like Austin has if we had a few more hotel rooms near the CC than we do now. They're lucky, most of the major hotels are a 5 or 6 block walk with no rivers to cross (at least, they were last time I was there in 2008).

I know this isn't technically a building but i couldn't find a better fitting thread to post this in but it is something I wish Portland would do.

I saw this article about dallas building a "park deck" over the highway through the city and I was just wishing how great it would be for portland to build a "park deck" over the 405 it would connect goose hollow and northwest so much better to the city and enhance walkability. It would be like a line of parks like south and north park blocks.

Capping the 405 is an idea from Vera Katz' term as mayor. In fact, they did a full-blown study which should be online somewhere. Maybe somebody has a link?

Wow! That's stunning. It's a much more dramatic version of the idea used in the Cyan, downtown.

I feel like what was built that is the Cyan was nothing more than a halfassed building from what was originally designed for that building. It would have been nice to see that building take on a much more unique pattern to its design.

Probably because half of the Chinese upper class isn't trying to buy an investment property here.

This really is the answer. Portland doesn't have enough demand to bring in the kind of investment needed for 60 story towers. Maybe that's a good thing, because it would probably drive housing prices even more into the stratosphere than they already are... but ...I can't deny that I do love towers, and this tower is sexier than sexy. Yowza!!! I'm in awe. Reflective blue glass with a gentle curve as it rises. And it's 67 stories? Big Pink is our tallest, at 42 stories. Wow. I adore this.

...oh, oh, ew ew... I missed the fact that it's a Trump Tower.
