Exact opposite here. I have all the webcam links saved and am trying to keep up with everything from Chicago. It's pretty amazing to walk around midtown every time I come home though. The difference is noticeable even every few months.

Clermont Hotel renovation finally ready to move forward.

The transformation of the run-down Clermont Hotel into a 94-room boutique hotel is finally set to kick off.Financing for the project closed Dec. 30, and renovation work should start in March. Now, the goal is to complete renovations within 12 months and reopen the hotel around March 2017.
It will have a “layered” design, he said, meaning each area will feel as it evolved over time. For example, the bar will draw inspiration from an interior in Cuba getting remade during the 1970s. The lobby and rooms will start with finishes from the 1920s and layer in paint, carpet and furniture from decades that followed.

Legacy Announces Hilton's newer "Canopy" brand hotel in dual brand downtown

https://www.bisnow.com/atlanta/news/hotel/what-new-hilton-brand-is-headed-downtown-55761

Quote:
Hilton is looking to bring its newest brand, a hyper-local boutique that will even loan out bicycles to guests, to Downtown Atlanta. Bisnow chatted with one of the key players working on the plan.

Hilton Canopy is in advanced talks to be the second flag in Legacy Ventures' dual-flagged Marietta Street hotel in the Luckie-Marietta District, which includes Hilton Worldwide's Homewood Suites. Legacy's captain, David Marvin (here with his kids), tells us the $80M, 350-key project attached to the parking deck at 311 Marietta will have a lot of cool bells and whistles.

A lifestyle-themed boutique, each location of Canopy by Hilton will be heavily influenced by the local culture, with localized in-room amenities. It will also emphasize healthy breakfasts, and offer bike rentals, so guests can ride around the local environs.

Canopy, launched by Hilton in 2013, plans to open its first property this year in Iceland (here) and will roll out hotels in Charlotte, Bethesda, Oklahoma City and West Palm Beach. David says while plans for a dual-branded hotel have long been in gestation for the site, skyrocketing construction costs put that on hold. He says Legacy now hopes to break ground this year after assurances of a capital infusion from an unnamed life company. “We are very close,” he says.

Bisnow reporting is not always current or correct generally. I am confused about this pic posted on the same story. It appears to be a different project.

That's the one opening in Iceland, no?

(EDIT: It is. http://canopy3.hilton.com/en/index.html)

And though we've always known it was supposed to be a Hilton hotel, it was originally going to be a Homewood Suites and not this new "Canopy" concept. It makes sense that we're just now hearing this update since the article says it's been in "gestation" for a long time.

It's still going to be a Homewood Suites as well - it's a dual brand hotel with the Canopy brand on the top levels and the Homewood Suites on the lower levels - You can see how the fenestration changes differentiate the brands in the rough draft rendering.

I noticed that the rendering looks slightly different and has 20 floors instead of 19

98 14th Street

Surveyor on site at 98 14th street. Not sure what this means, but he's been there since at least 8 this morning.

Are they going to coverup the exterior concrete columns on the Atlantic House, I thought it was supposed to be gold/bronze color exterior wise. Right now it is looking very much identical to another Skyhouse if they don't cover those columns.

Alta on the park is a go! Also looks like a new construction office is being set up next to the food truck lot, wonder what project that is for?

That's discouraging....drawings show a finish similar to One Atlantic and it's mini cousin.

That's incorrect, it will have a facade. At least the first two or three levels will to match one Atlantic.

Omg....can it finally be happening? The biggest Midtown project of the decade? Atlanta needs a decent skyscraper built before the decade ends.
