I think it is very interesting that the original Convention Centre plan seemed to call for a hotel tower on top of the expansion and not the Carlton Inn site. That the Carlton Inn site then became integral to the success of the project. That only proposals for a significant hotel from a national chain were being accepted. That True North then made a stocking horse proposal without a hotel for the site behind closed doors and it was accepted without an RFI or RFP to anyone else.

Yeah really everything about the SHED is a little fishy, especially its boundaries that for some magical reason shoot north of Portage for only one square block.

That being said, if TNS even goes ahead looking half as good and half as tall, I'd be pretty happy. And if that leads to cityplace becoming a place fit for a city again (ie: Hargrave propsal) I'd be ecstatic. I'd bow to the Chipmans and let them do whatever the 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 hell they want from then forward.

^ No matter what your view is on the ownership, Winnipeg would be a quieter and less interesting place in terms of development without Chipman. Always been somewhat of a catalyst for this area after he landed the Jets..

We could use a few more like him..

Right from the start Centrepoint was touted as the first major development of the SHED. And they would benefit from the increased streetscaping, etc. Also the convention centre developments were being developed and was included in the SHED layout.

The whole point of the SHED is to make it more attractive for developers. That what it is. The fact that Longboat/TNSE have taken advantage of that is good business on them. The whole Convention Centre deal with the hotel requirement is questionable. Developer gets out of their deal. TNSE ends up coming in with their proposal and it's under construction already.

I noticed that haha warm dirt on cold air. That's why you don't do grading work for roads, etc in the winter. Freeze dry 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 the moisture out.

Hopefully the greenspace is what they showed on the roof tops. They had green roofs everywhere, even on top of the towers. There's also the cathedrals lands as part of the development. Maybe some type of enhancements to their yard.

Anyone taking bets on when the crane from Glasshouse comes down and is rolled a block over to the TNS site? Would seem to fit perfectly, both timeline wise and logistics.

A few photos from this afternoon. Sorry for the grainy ones, using my old phone from a few years back. A bit difficult to get some good close ups of this one right now, even from MTS Centre skywalk. Unless you work at MPI or Hydro I guess.

Also, the wooden fencing they put up is quite tall. Not sure why, probably for the marketing. But the fence is right at the street. So people can't even walk or hang out there.
