Are people optimistic about the new stadium? - yes. For anyone that has been in the old stadium and had to walk around with their hand over thier beer so some mysterious "fluid" from the stands above didn't drip into it, or wade through ankle deep slime in the concourses, or sit in your seat for 20 minutes after the game waiting for the crowd to funnel through exits that wouldn't pass fire code in the developing world.....its pretty easy to be optimistic about a new facility (that, incidentally, will be fantastic).

Good design doesn't cost money, but good design typcially doesn't call for materials that you can go pick up at Rona. Good design typcially involves lots of custom fabrication and one-off material uses which does tend to be expensive.

To me good design works with materials within budget to come up with something both functionally effective and aesthetically interesting. I won't go with aesthetically pleasing because tastes do differ. Again this is all within a given budget. I think the Rona materials could have been done a little better, a little more visually interesting, but I don't know how the budget for exterior was shaping up or how the stakeholders weighed in on that. I don't.

Went through the centre a week ago. There will be very few rear ends that won't fit in the seats, although the depth (length) of the seats seemed short. We found shoulder width to be the problem. There's a decent amount of bum room but two bigger guys sitting beside each other had shoulders touching/pressing against each other in the General Admission seating (20"). Shoulders still touched in the Club Seats (22") but it wasn't bad at all.

33" between seat and seat in front was nice. When you stand up, there's ample room for people to pass in front.

Investors Group Field seats were far and above more roomy and comfortable which is unfortunate, but I guess it is what it is.

I snapped a few pictures for those out of town folks.

Also the LED lights are about to go up on the east side & it looks like steel work on the north end spectator roof is about to begin.

At least 6 banks of LED lights are visible on the south webcam. They are attached to the field side of the roof catwalk that runs north-south for the length of the roof.

Crane is down today and tomorrow due to high winds.

That speaks to your priorities. As a football fan when I'm trying to determine aesthetic appeal my gaze points to inside the stadium, where all the action and amenities are. What the stadium will look like when it's full. And a bowled stadium closed in at both ends with 33K fans all dressed in green will look infinitely better than the 25K or so fans attending a game in an open-ended stadium.

There's nothing about the outside of New Mosaic that's ugly; it looks perfectly fine from the outside. They just didn't see any need to waste money on the outside. Unless somebody is willing to donate money specifically for something to go on the outside that is the scale of Ottawa's wooden structure I would be against spending money on something like that. That type of money would be much better spent inside the stadium.

1. Your percentages are way off. The stadium is a vital piece of infrastructure as far as games even existing to watch. Everybody that cares about the Riders and follows the team and watches the games on TV, they all get a direct benefit from the stadium. And the vast majority of this province cares about and watches Rider games, whether they can actually physically be in the stadium or not. So your numbers are bogus. What it looks like inside and the experience of the patrons that are there, that is OF COURSE the most important part! What, the features inside of the city bus that actually impact the rider's experience is less important than how pretty the bus looks like on the outside??? I see your motivation. You're just a contrarian, period.

It is absolutely ugly. It's boring, uninspired and literally cheap. The vast majority of the exterior looks like an afterthought. I know you all are very, very, very, very excited about the stadium, but I truly and honestly believe you are all lying when you think it looks good. Better than Taylor Field, but not good. All of you are rationalizing a bad design by thinking solely about the privileged few who actually go to games.

This stadium is going to sit around for the next 40 years looking subpar. With that in mind you might as well have put the province in debt for another 10M to make a better statement about the city and province.

And I don't care that you think any of those things, and I don't think the majority will care either. The consensus opinion on the stadium's exterior look will be positive. And if they were willing to spend an extra 10 million then it would obviously be better spent inside the stadium.
