I doubt it but you never know. Looking at the T2 website, they don't have any Starwood hotels in their portfolio

And Dairy Block, which is adding 170 rooms. I suppose the big difference is the effect Union Station is having on that area. Seems like a number of small hotels might make sense now.

Did you not notice that I mentioned a few other places in close proximity that provide the same services? Monolithic developments like this suck for the pedestrian experience and you know it. It's not like I'm opposing any development, I'm opposing development that neither does anything for the aesthetic for 38th avenue nor brings density. And no, these folks don't recognize sh**t about the culture of the neighborhood nor do they care. They're a couple of provincial bumpkins who have no idea how to create interesting business ventures other than facilitating the automobile. You can diminish the progress of this neighborhood all you want by calling it a suburb and criticizing the pervasive white hipster culture, but you can't convince me that you appreciate this kind of development for anything other than pissing off the people of West Highlands/Berkley.

The hospitality/tourism experts tell us that Denver has entered a new phase of being a legitimate destination for visitors. Until recently, most downtown hotels were oriented to the convention center or corporate travel through the big legacy hotel flags. Now that Denver is cool enough for people to visit for a weekend getaway without necessarily a mountain trip included, these more boutique hotels make sense, and LoDo/Union Station is definitely part of the appeal in addition to the awesome train connection to DIA. That's my read of the situation at least.

It's interesting to hear you say this. I have thought for a longtime that LoDo would be the perfect weekend getaway neighborhood once the airport train was up and running. The only problem was lack of hotel rooms, which is now being solved.

CPR also recently did a story on the local hotel market. It sounds like demand is actually quite hot right now.

My friends in hotel management tell me beer, weed, and the growing awareness of Red Rocks have driven weekend vacancies way down. A few years ago they couldn't give away hotel rooms on a Saturday, now it's tough to find one. On a big event weekend you can completely forget about it. We can definitely absorb quite a bit of hotel development these days.

I appreciate it in the sense that I do, from time to time, take my car to a car wash. (Personally, Waterworks on Broadway is my car wash of choice. But it does get crowded, and I might be okay with a second alternative in the vicinity.)

Same reason I appreciate gas stations. And power substations. And other things that people like you complain about, and then still use every day.

The latest renderings for 16th and Market (old bus station) at Denver-cityscape look nice. No "Colotecture" colors. It is actually rather Brutalist, which I think is cool. Excited as helll that the parking lots at 16th and Market and 17th and Blake are being developed! Hopefully those two lots mid-block on Blake across from the RTD building will also get filled in. With the Dairy Block under construction there are only those 2 half block parking lots between 18th and 19th on Market that need attention. There are like 4 other small corner parking lots spread out around LoDo as well, but I will be content if they remain.

The "high rise" development at 32nd and Lowell is coming along nicely and is really a nice addition to that commercial district, IMO. I like how it's massing compliments the actual high rise one block to the east and makes that building not look out of place any longer.

If we really don't want carwashes on retail streets, change the zoning to make carwashes an industrial use. I'm fine with that. But if it happens there, it's on the city for allowing it.

BTW, it is possible to build an urban carwash.

Eh. I prefer the DIY carwashes. Especially when I decide to go wash my fiancee's purple PT Cruiser with zebra stripe seat covers. Roll up like a G, listen to some gangsta rap, and aggressively run the brush / soap thingy all over that purple bod. Then, I spray it down with cold water that comes out of the high-pressure water jet thingy because it's a bad car! Contributing to the downfall of all urban society! BAD CAR!

I've checked in here enough to see that people are moving in like crazy and visiting like crazy. I know rent is going up. What's retail looking like in Denver right now and what's the outlook for the near future? All I can gather is that Cherry Creek is getting a lot of development. Are you guys getting more luxury brands out there or is it like Utah with Vegas where people just travel somewhere else to buy their Cartier and Luis Vuitton?
