If by "just as talented" you mean, not even close to being the same caliber of player... you sir, are correct.

But yes... agree with you on the arena/stadium thing. But they'll never have as good a skyline! lol

He is a fine player and I like watching Gaudreau. But saying he is as talented as McDavid is offside by a mile.

No. I will admit that Edmonton's stadia puts Calgary's to shame but it's not even close when it comes to skylines. Calgary wins hands down in terms of quality and quantity. You need a time-out.

I'm not saying they are on par I'm just saying Edmonton is on the rise.

-8 buildings over 100M tall under construction
-9 more approved.
-4 more proposed.
-Rogers place
-Ice district
-New Museum
-New waterdale bridge
-Jasper ave redevelopment

Among everything else happening close to DT Edmonton. Just because Calgary has 4-5 taller buildings doesn't mean it's always gonna be a better skyline or DT there is more to it than that but as for tall towers, Edmonton had hight restrictions they are gone now and Edmonton will have the tallest building in western Canada 2 years from now. What I love about E-towns DT future is the architecture more than the height

Doesn't have to be the case. At Mosaic Stadium, all dressing rooms/facilities are under the West grandstand, the the opposition benches are on the East side.

The visiting team comes out of the West grandstand and had to make their way across the field to the East Side.

It will likely remain this way at the new stadium as well, though I haven't looked into that big in the plans they released.

No, you said that Calgary's skyline " isn't all that glamorous in comparison" to Edmonton's. At this point in time, Calgary's skyline beats Edmonton's in term of both quality and quantity. It's not just a matter of Calgary having a few more tall buildings either. Furthermore, the gap is large and the pace is being kept in Calgary. And now we've gone off topic by talking about skyscrapers in a thread about stadiums on a skyscraper forum.

I don't think it's all that much better than Edmonton's even today. but Agree to disagree? fact is Calgary needs to do something about the sports stadia and Edmonton need to keep the foot on the gas because if Rogers place doesnt bring people DT before and after the games/events than it's a failure to the downtown revitalization project and Edmonton will always be a step behind calgary in terms on the Skyline

For TFC fans, the grass is a concern. The paint is a concern. The aesthetics remain top of mind.

“MLSE has gone all out,” Heggie said of the resources he has been provided, adding his groundskeeper buddies are all jealous.

All out to the tune of $2 million, actually, according to MLSE executive Bob Hunter, who the Sun reached by phone on Thursday.

A point of contention has been the decision to not install a hybrid grass system – a surface that reinforces a natural surface with artificial fibers.

Instead, MLSE has invested $400,000 in a pair of natural grass pitches currently growing in Mount Hope, Ont. They're identical to the pitch currently growing at BMO Field.

“Once you go with hybrid, you're stuck with it,” Hunter explained the decision. “You can't do patching or replacement.”

As Heggie affirmed, the decision provides something of an insurance plan, an immediate back up.

“If you have a hybrid field you're relying on growing grass from seed,” Heggie added. “There's no quick fix. When you have natural grass you have the ability to rip it out and put fresh grass in – thick cut grass that will stay down. You always have that in case of emergency.”

Heggie's reserve pitches are growing in identical soils a short drive away. They'll be trucked in whenever needed.

After being laid, the new sod is considered playable after three days. Toronto FC won't play before five days following a CFL game, with most games arriving a week after the Argos play

For starters, in addition to existing sub-pitch technologies, Toronto FC's ownership group invested $1.5 million in nine grass maintenance lighting systems to ensure all portions of the pitch receive proper lighting – a move Almand said will have “amazing” benefits.

They've done as much as they can to deal with the factors they can control – including doing everything to eliminate distracting football lines.

Nothing enrages North American soccer fans more than seeing bright white gridiron lines littering a soccer pitch.

It happens occasionally in other shared venues in Seattle and New England. It's unacceptable by TFC fans' standards.

Knowing that, Heggie phoned up Wembley Stadium last year to find best practices before eventually deciding on the same paint product used in London. The paint, which is produced in Australia, is mixed with malt extract.

Heggie and his crew have been testing it at the Kia Training Ground for months now.

“There's some reaction between the remover and the malt,” Heggie explained. “The paint falls off with agitation from the water.”

The process of removing football lines this year will begin at the conclusion of every CFL game and could extend overnight.

“The life of a groundsman,” Heggie added.

They'll also shift the CFL field game-to-game to ensure lines aren't constantly being repainted in the same areas of the field.

Oh, and there won't be any Double Blue paint used anywhere on the natural surface.

“There's no coloured logos on the field during (CFL) games,” Hunter reaffirmed.

As much as I cannot stand TFC Fans ability to moan and bitch about the most miniscule issues with their sacred turf, I love this idea that there will be no onfield advertising during Argo games.

I'm not thrilled with the onfield ads either, but I'm not sure those will be disappearing... you will note that they only said no coloured logos on the field, so I'm guessing that still enables the Argos to use the easy-off Australian line product to paint sponsor logos in white, in addition to the regular football lines.

There are already some fields that use monochrome sponsor logos like Calgary and Sask, IIRC, so it's not even something new in the league either.

It's funny to read Kurt Larson's articles in the Sun constantly stroking and reassuring the insecure TFC fanbase about how they will always be top dog at BMO. Honestly, I think some TFC fans are going to need therapy with regard to this whole Argos moving in thing.

Will they have a safe room at BMO with puppies and kittens?

.
Can't you electronically super-impose the ads on the field for TV these days, without the fans in the stadium seeing anything?

And then you have those elongated sandwich board signs all around the field too.

^ Actually now that you mention it, electronically superimposed signs would be a win win... I presume the technology exists to do it easily?

^It does. Curse this digital age.

It's a similar technology to mark the first down line.

Is that even possible? Wouldn't it be reasonable to think that the goalposts need be anchored in the same spot for the football configuration? That would mean the CFL field configuration would be fixed as well, no?

I've noticed sometimes on hockey broadcasts that the ads on the boards are different depending on which network you're watching. Games carried on RDS (especially playoff games) when Montreal are playing in American rinks will sometimes have Quebec advertisers featured on the boards.

I believe they might do this with Canadian ads at the WJC when it's outside Canada. Although sometimes they'll actually have Canadian ads physically on the boards themselves in another country for the WJC.

Good catch... I have no idea how that would be accommodated on a practical level, short of installing, say, 3 separate anchor points a yard apart and moving the field back and forth one yard each game. I can't imagine it would be worth the hassle and even then the sidelines wouldn't move... they're so thick that you couldn't move them far enough to cover different ground every game.

Methinks Larson is living in a TFC dream world.

That's the "beauty" of the electronic ads I suppose, you can custom tailor them to whoever's watching.

WJC board ads have long been mostly Canadian, with a few token local sponsors... largely because the WJCs have virtually no profile outside this country.
