I'm liking Metro more and more. At least they call this 'ready to engage' group on their nonsense.

-Flawed logic, funding by deep pockets and not one solution offered.

I think it's very important to engage with stakeholders on plans for public transit projects, but on the other hand I hope and pray city council has the will to push this project forward and not back down to a bunch of Nimbys funded by a taxi company.

You know, for a cheap 'giveaway' paper, and a relatively new one at that, Metro isn't half bad covering civic politics.

Caving in to these idiots would send the message to all citizens that the best way to engage with the city is to ignore years of public engagement and open houses, then fight the battle in the media at the last minute, "demanding answers" and "not having been consulted" even though there were years of open houses, public documents and the rest. If council doesn't approve this project, it's more of a blow to the general concept of public engagement than to the public transit system.

Council not approving it isn't even a option at this point in time, that train left the station ages ago. It was approved numerous times by numerous councils over the years as part of bigger plans (most recently the 2014 Investing in Mobility plan), the contracts for construction likely have already been awarded (or are in the process of being) and its set to begin construction in a matter of months.

If it wasn't obvious by now, I'm 100% behind this project. The only change I'd make at this point is to bulldoze eagle ridge so they don't have to suffer having more efficient transit.

“This is a project that's been conceptualized for many, many, many years," Nenshi said. "It was unanimously approved by council in 2011, and then was included in Route Ahead, and has been funded now in our most recent capital budget. From council's view, we're done."

NIMBY campaign costing Calgary taxpayers

Saw several trains today display either "Red Line" or "Blue Line" along with the terminus stations in the destination screens at the front of each LRV. Looks like Calgary Transit has finally started to officially roll out the colour coded branding of the LRT network... definitely a welcome move as I believe it will make the conversations about the "Green Line" much more relevant in the minds of transit customers.

So they're listing the line colour *plus* the terminus station? At the same time, or does one show, then the other, etc?

Threw me for a bit of a loop as I saw the "Blue line" train at Dalhousie, before realizing that it was probably going to Saddletowne (didn't look long enough for the display to change to that).

And there we have the crux of the matter. The people opposed don't need a bus so they don't want anyone to have a bus.

I sometimes wonder if all the rediculousness is part of a broader political strategy. Not by the mafia, of course.
