Phased Construction could cost upwards of 2.7 bil. The amount of Mechanical alone is an incredible amount.Included the DI infrastructure the multitude of OR and treatment rooms. It will probably have a large Psych ward. Also look at it this way, It will be dealing with a mil or more patients. It will take the load off the U, Alex and also Sturgeon.

There is a lot of stainless steel ductwork that goes into a hospital, and that kind of ductwork is expensive. Hospital floor heights are substantially taller than common floor heights for residential and commercial developments, a significant portion of a hospital floor is used to house the mechanical equipment.

There's nothing wrong with the physical infrastructure of modern health care facilities

The fundamental problems are with delivery of health care in this province

One site is west beside the Henday, so within the LRT plan. the other site I have heard is on the North Bank of the River along the Henday, to the north of Windermere.

Agree somewhat. The delivery gets tweaked by every new administration the Infrastructure gets lost in the rhetoric. We keep hearing about front line workers so money is thrown that way but the Cuts from the Klein years continued through every administration. yes we were building some new hospitals but spending very little on maintenance, so now were are spending money to rebuild. A lot of money is being spent update sterilization facilities that were left to fail and are not meeting minimum codes now.

Add in the cost of IT. New DI and the electronic Health Records, the harmonized Pharmaceutical records are all cutting duplicate costs but it costs a fare swack of money to keep that up.
