I've been following and watching the stadium progress for years now, and it's looking great to my eyes.

Thank you to all who've posted construction pictures and information updates, much appreciated.

Yes Drofmab that's the house I was talking about, apparently it is not exactly the same as the stadium, but I thought the 'look' was similar. Either way,I still like the exterior of the stadium, although some will nit-pik it to death ad nauseam.

In any case, why don't all of us merely agree [for now] and wait 'n see what she will look like on the inside. For Regina, this will be an amazing facility. Let's collectively not judge the book by its cover until the "book" is finished.

Hopefully, we'll soon be able to forget about this exterior debate.

Actually I do think those renders are an accurate representation of what the stadium will look like - but I think the actual stadium will look better than the renders. Except the landscaping will likely not look anywhere near as nice as in the renders and will likely be a huge fail until 70% of the trees and shrubs die due to poor maintenance and local kids and drunk fans breaking branches off.

There are lots of things that could have been different. I too really liked the red brick on the downtown proposal both in appearance and for the way it would have tied into surrounding neighborhoods. Red brick would also have looked great right next door to the armoury - but hey, the siding looks great too. We all get that you don't like the stadium, don't like the impact it may have on your house and whatever else you don't like about it.....we get it and have got it through your countless previous posts.....we get it.

Regina isn't London, New York, LA, Rio or Beijing.....there are some fantastic stadiums in those cities.....to expect a small prarie city to have something that rivals the appearance of some of those cities' stadiums isn't that realistic.

Not stadium related but does anyone now the storey on that house? I always liked the house and thought it was done in good taste (not necessarily in the neighborhood context). I just figured the person building it was from elsewhere originally or an architect of some type. I think exterior materials were changed a number of times until they got it to where they liked it.....and now they are selling. Alas, I don't have $1.2M sitting in my pocket.

Definitely an architect of some sort based on the blueprint tubes in his office and multitude of screens at each computer.

Bad time to sell though with the market the way it is, and over $1 million is tough too with the new mortgage rules. It's going to sit a long time.

The owner is the principal behind Oko Haus Design. I'm not sure that he's a registered architect though.

But it straight up doesn't. The current glass, Tyndall and metal siding straight up does not look like the render referred to. It just doesn't.

So this thread should actually be called "Regina | New Mosaic Stadium (Under Construction) (Flawless) (No Criticism Please). If you guys get to come in here and be 100% positive then I sure as hell get to come in here and throw a bit of cold water on the whole thing when I please. Especially when I give specific reasons and examples.

This assumes that good design costs a lot of money. That isn't necessarily true. And we can at least attempt to look as good as Ottawa.

Gee BDH, you are right! The entire stadium is a piece of shyte! What were the designers and builders thinking when they approved the siding and stone. Bloody idiots the lot of them! You should go right over to the site and ask, no damnit, DEMAND that you take over the project and get it done right!

I apologize for my lack of depth in the appreciation of proper design and construction materials. This project has been a huge disappointment for me and I will never set foot in that place unless BDH is given full control of the rest of the construction process!!!

I find value in different opinions so I see no issue with having a negative view towards the project. That being said, it's certainly possible to have opposing views and constructive conversation without being condescending or personal.

Your nonsensical argument is consistent with everything Chad Novak says. Sorry to say.

Although I do find BDH to be very negative generally, his level of discourse is well above anything Chad Novak could ever dream of coming up with.

Really from a free-enterprise standpoint there is no reason the CFL or NFL or anyone should have 30,000-seat stadiums. If you based it on actual demand and what it would cost to build (and maintain) and factored that into ticket prices you'd probably see 5,000-person stadiums instead. I'm not a fan of government subsidizing certain forms of entertainment and not others, especially for leagues where players make far more than the median Canadian salary. If you took out the massive government subsidies of professional sports in Canada (and the US) you'd have a more realistic image of what sport should be like, in terms of scope and scale. However, it's a part of life and I've accepted that, I just don't like it.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the coming 5-10 years as cable TV collapses (network too) and advertising revenue plummets. The NFL in particular is reliant on that money, and if they were to charge people the true cost of watching streams of games, it would be quite and expensive hobby (estimates of around $30-$40/mo for streamed NFL games). While many fans will pay this, all won't, which means big drops in revenue. I would bet we're going to see a big shrinkage of professional sports in North America in the next 10 years as revenue sources start to decrease. Just a prediction though!
It does feel like a house of cards doesn't it? With all the obscene tv deals being signed - billion dollar local MLB tv deal for Dodgers, Anaheim which pays each team over $100 million a year; recent American TV deal for the NBA that pays each team $85 million per year; Rogers Sportsnet deal for the NHL - I just don't see how these networks can possibly hope to recover their cash outlays for these contracts. With more cord cutting happening by the year, it will be that much more difficult and no, I don't think they will totally mitigate this with new media deals on the internet.

Then you have the cost of attending the event which is obscene in itself. Even if you don't over-indulge, a typical night out at a hockey, NFL or NBA game will probably set you back $150 - $200 for one person once you factor in the average ticket price, parking, one food and one beverage item. Even one CFL game for an individual will probably run $100 for an average priced ticket, parking and one food and beverage item. It's getting crazy.

And all the leagues still rely to a large degree on the middle income earner. Yeah there are plenty of seats for the high rollers - suites, club sections, field level and lower level seating but make no mistake about it, much of the revenue at the gate is larger dependent on the working and middle income earners...and the middle income person's wages have not kept up with the rapidly escalating costs of attending these sports events. 5 - 10% increases in ticket prices and food and concession prices every single year while wages remain stagnant or if you're lucky you see a small increase of 1-2%. Many will eventually throw up their hands and say "Enough" and cease to come...or at least come less frequently.

I'm sure in the next decade or so, we will see a major shift in the economic realities of sports - less revenues from TV and lower live attendance and subsequently, less revenue from the live gate. Owners and players will both suffer though I wouldn't feel to sorry for them.

Interesting you mentioned Ottawa. I'm assuming you're referring to the wooden veil? Purely aesthetic, provides no function to protect the concourses within from the elements. And it remains unpayed-for, forcing the builder into bankrupty and seventy employees to the unemployment line.

The question is an issue of design. It looks infinitely better than any part of Mosaic.

I find looking through the veil at the bare-bones skeleton of the Ottawa stadium displeasing to my eye.

Look for the Riders to release info & renderings regarding their football & business facilities within the new stadium, just before free agency.
