Since Cyrville Station is one of the few central platform stations on the Confederation Line, what is the purpose of the large ramp shown on the north side of the station; the one that seems to have more people on it than there are people on the platform? Is it just a MUP for people to cross under Cyrville Road? If so, it should probably appear on the west side of the road also.

Isn't that the path that will link to the aviation parkway? (Or maybe my sense of direction is bad)

There is a link in both directions, one heading towards Palmerston and City Park Drive, the park in that area. and one heading towards St. Laurent

The new renders show a lot of fine details that probably weren't settled on at the time the original ones were drawn by RTG in December 2012.

For example, the new rendering of Hurdman Station shows very clearly the fare-paid bus platform concept that council decided on in 2014.

The rendering shows an access that allows people to get on or off the bus and just go up the escalator, and boom, they're right on the LRT platform.

I don't see that fare paid zone you are talking about. I also don't see any escalators.

They're stairs; escalators was a typo, my bad.

Notice how the buses stop on the loop in front of the street, and from there, just walk up to the stairs, and boom you're on the platform. No need to pass through fare gates to get from the bus stop to the train stop.

I've seen the renderings at stations and their "O"'s. I hope they re-design the O-Train name/logo before they build the way-finding.

It seems to me like there are bike racks there

Now if we could only have that exact same design at Carling on the Trillium Line it would be great!

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that.

An underground pedestrian link across Carling wouldn't be that expensive.

Literally lifesavers, because we all know the general public will complain they can't find the stations

The new renders don't really make the stations look as pretty as they used to... and they used to look just pretty enough. And I swear there were supposed to be escalators at Hurdman, and really there should be at every multi-level station

Original Hurdman looked like this. Wonder why they ditched island platform design. Isn't it cheaper and better in general?

There will almost certainly be escalators (building code requirement), they're just not in the render for some reason.

I actually think they look better in the newer renders. The pre-contract city renders and the initial RTG renders looked like the sort of thing that would be beautiful in the first year and then after a winter or two they'd look like 🞵🞵🞵🞵. These are nice and simple. Not harsh and tacky like the old Transitway stations, and not over-the-top extravagant like some of the newer subway stations in Toronto.

Island platforms used to be at almost every station but they ditched them, including in the downtown tunnel.

It doesn't really matter too much for the most part. What's cheaper depends on how the line is set up. For the downtown tunnel, side platforms are absolutely cheaper but elsewhere it would depend.

I highly suspect that accessibility factored in. In Toronto there's been recent blow-ups about how centre platform stations are less accessible to the blind, and IIRC there was threat of lawsuits over island platforms in new subway stations a couple years ago... RTG may be wanting to avoid that.

So what are they supposed to do with the snow that accumulates on the platforms at Hurdman, shovel it on to the tracks or launch it off to the side? The little bit of glass canopy in the middle looks like a recipe for falling ice 20 feet below onto some hapless commuter, and that exposed stairway is going to be hell in freezing rain.

That's a very good question. But as RTG is responsible for paying for snow clearing costs for 30 years, we can safely assume they'll design something that's easy enough to keep clean in winter.

I'm going to guess that this new render shows something close to the final design, as new renders have been put up only for stations that are now under construction. Based on that, my guess would be that the canopy covering the stairway is going to be big enough to keep precipitation away from it, and that there's going to something to catch ice from its edges.

Website update

Are any of the pieces listed as "in progress" on the website considered "Complete"? http://www.ligneconfederationline.ca/

Maybe the 417 Widening... the Scott Bus Detour? Are there still things to be finished on those sites?
