The Sens bid is so much better than the other one, I don't see how it won't win. Who wants the auto museum/brewseum? It seems like they just threw in Farm Boy to make it Ottawa-ish .

Only the NCC could come up with such an inane rule as this:

Remember: This website will be taken offline on February 9, 2016

In accordance with NCC bid regulations, this website will be available for public consultation on January 26 to February 8 2016 only. Make sure to download our information kit if you wish to access our proposal’s details past these dates.

I thought I would love the SENS proposal and hate DEVCOR, turns out the opposite is quite true.

I love the architecture, the events center, the public squares, the landscaping, the "urban beach", the mixed use and the innovation/art and cool things that DEVCOR have integrated in their proposal. Now, can they actually pull it off and deliver on everything promised (including a sky park, Molson Brewseum, a what seems to be new science and tech museum, central library, Ripley's Aquarium, Car museum, etc..) that is another question. But if they can, I would much rather like this proposal. It's VERY urban, innovative and interesting. Looks like a great exciting and vibrant development (a-la Edmonton but just bigger).

The SENS proposal I found very bland and lifeless. Even the retail and "aquaduct" portion, is basically a paved walkway CLOSE (not adjacent) to the aquaduct but again buffered by a stupid open overgrown green space (just like our canal). I know the architecture and buildings can change and evolve but all of them in the proposal show boring square shoebox towers. Other than Arena, Sensplex and Library, they aren't really proposing much else. What else will draw tourists or people to visit the area? I also found the landscaping very bare and the public areas or squares very barebones.

Anyways, that's my opinion. Have a feeling there will be LOTS of interesting discussions and back and forth on this thread in the coming days/weeks

Ottawa! Come for the green space, stay for the shrubs.

Devcore looks better in pictures because they brightened everything up and all their shots are in the day time. We need to think about practicality. Does anyone care about auto museum, brewseum, skate park, skydiving simulator, etc?

I wouldn't mind either at the end of the day (even though Devcore looks like ugly Claridge condos) but the key factor is the Sens themselves. If Devcore wins they will need to secure the Sens somehow.

I think you got em mixed up. Devcore condos look nothing like Claridge. Meanwhile Melnyk's proposal is all boring condo towers a la Claridge.

Regarding the Sens are not for sale comment from Melnyk. Like someone mentioned here yesterday, its just him playing the game.
I believe the Devcore group has deeper pockets, so if they win, surely they will offer enough $ to Melnyk to change his mind.

Have the community associations been heard from yet?

"2500 tourists a day? NO WAY!"

I like elements of both. The presentation of the Rendezvous group is much better than the Devcore group.

If I have to absolutely choose one, I'd choose Rendezvous simply because they already have the Sens.

I agree about the Brewseum, auto museum and skatepark, it just seems really unnecessary for Ottawa. I like their other attractions though, especially the idea of an aquarium.

They should really have a compromise. Use most of Devcore's elements, let Melnyk own the arena (which is all he wants really), and perhaps drop some of the attractions.

I highly doubt that being the current owner of the Sens is one of the evaluation criteria for this RFP.

Devcore bid is definitely more ambitious and innovative and pushes the envelope more in terms of what Ottawa has seen or not seen before. Not sure I like their name for the bid though, Canadensis, sounds like a bug/disease, haha.

Rendezvous is kinda boring, generic, grid-like, and conservative, which is what Ottawa is in most part, so it would definitely fit into the city more.

My conclusion here early on is that either you want something ordinary in which case you go with Rendezvous, or you want something with a bit of oooomphhhh, then you go for Devcore.

Upon first glance, I really detest the Devcore's proposal. I don't see how we can sustain most of those attractions. Molson Brewseum, that is horrible. The mixed use/residential components are too segregated from the public use functions. I prefer the mix in the Rendezvous plan, how they have broken things down into neighbourhoods. It is the better of the two by far. I need to digest these more but Devcore is not good. I really dislike it.

Gridlike is EXACTLY what Lebreton needs after the abortion of a suburban plan adopted on the eastern block.

Does it have to be called "Canada DRIVE"?
