One more idea about the elevator banks: I wonder if they would be more appealing if that side of the building matched the shorter 636-foot building? Even if it looked a little bit different from the sleek east-facing side?

Just an information presentation this Thursday 1/14, but it does show that the project continues to move forward. Of note, planning is considering whether this will receive a community plan exemption -- a significant time saver for approvals, as they would not have to do their own EIR.

Nice find minesweeper -- thanks for sharing.

Because I'm obsessed with this project, I watched the presentation at planning. They have the follow-up informational presentation in March and then on to approvals after that. The commission seemed to really like many elements of it.

Also, the attorney for the project sponsor mentioned that this will be Oceanwide's North America headquarters, and that they are accelerating construction documents right now and will be ready to break ground once they have approvals and permits in hand.

Are you sure that reporter didn't just see the 850' height listed without the 60' mechanical/sculptural top added?

All you have seen on 181 Fremont is a rendering. We know how other projects with beautiful renderings turned out, especially Handel's. So I am skeptical and will reserve judgement on 181/HM until it is built.

The SF Business Times headline initially confused me...

But you can imagine how disappointing it was to read this...
The taller tower's height has also been cut from 910 feet to 850, making it a few feet shorter than the Transamerica Pyramid. The Salesforce Tower will become the city's tallest skyscraper at 1,070 feet.

The First and Mission towers will also have a mix of residential apartments, office space and a hotel. The taller tower facing First Street will have 1 million square feet of office space and 109 units of housing. The 600-foot tower on Mission Street calls for a 169-room hotel at the base of the building, topped by 156 residential units.

MKA's Oceanside Center page still says...
185,806-m² (2-million-ft²), mixed-use complex featuring First Street Tower, a 61-story, 275.8-m- (905-ft-), building with residential over office, and Mission Street Tower, a 54-story 190.5-m- (625-ft-) building with residential over hotel, both developed using performance-based seismic design methodology.

Can someone further determine what is accurate please?

I should note on that last rendering, they have exaggerated the height of both towers. The second tower, for example, at 600 ft. is to be the same height as 50 Fremont and 101 California, and slightly shorter than Millennium Tower. The main tower will be slightly taller or the same height as Transamerica.

This new rendering appears to show Oceanwide Center at 850 feet. It's a little shorter, but still looks okay with the rest of the current proposed skyline.

In that rendering it still looks like it could be 900'. I wouldn't be surprised if the business times reporter got roof height and total height confused, though it also wouldn't be surprising if they did slightly downsize.

Indeed, it looks to be 900 feet. If you compare the first design with the tweaked, current design, it is about the same.

If the highest occupiable height is offically 850', i really do not see any sane developer reducing the height. Maybe it could be shorter with a redesign of the crown?

(plus: what's this thing with putting trees and a park at the top as they did with the initial renderings for 399 fremont?)

personally, i think it sorta sucks that the shorter tower does not mirror and/or match the taller. and yes, i realize it would be more expensive.

So is Salesforce tower going to be 1200'+ or what? Because from the image posted above I have blocked out Millennium Tower, which is right across the street from Salesforce, and is 645' tall. I then added the second rectangle on top which is the same height as Millennium and it doesn't even reach the top of Salesforce crown. If you look at the actual roof height it looks to be just above the 50 1st tower, which is accurate if the 50 1st "Oceanwide Center" tower is 910' (since Salesforce is 912' to roof). Looks like the crown has been extended way past 1,070'.





Or maybe this artist is just really sloppy, because the tower next to 50 1st is only supposed to be the same height as the Millennium tower, and it looks to be 150' higher.

And re: trees on tops of building in renderings: if I had a bitcoin for every tree on a roof I saw in a rendering. Yet I've never seen any trees actually exist on any of the buildings built.

That's an odd question on this site since most of us do.

MKA lists the second tower as being 625'.
