You're right, there's certainly an imbalance. Of course, if we're going to go very far, there's also quite a few projects in the exchange north of Portage.

You're right, there's a lot going on in the Exchange, but I'd say that area is a different beast altogether compared to North Portage.

That's the funny thing about downtown Winnipeg, it's so geographically huge. The Exchange's ups and downs are totally separate from what's happening on Portage Avenue.

And to put north of Portage and south of Portage into perspective, Hargrave 1 block north you have the Ellice LC and Hargrave 1 block south you have TN Square. Like 2 different worlds.

I don't really agree with the imbalance point. 2/3 of development in the last decade has been in the exchange. Finally a few of the parking lots are being filled in sopo but it's hardly awash with new buildings. It still has a looooong way to go to be a good area.

What's that an image of?

I agree. That was kind of my point earlier. If you're talking about the area abutting the street, then I guess you could make the argument, but I don't really buy it.

When I called it an imbalance, I meant in the sense that the CJOB article makes a valid point, in that the south side of Portage has been abuzz with development activity but it has been notably absent on the north side of Portage, with the exception of Centrepoint.

I'm not saying there's too much development on the south side... rather, the question is how do you stimulate development on the north side so that it keeps pace?

Look at twitter. I retweeted a post from @mynameisblar where B+H describe True North Square.

If you look at the render. It's Mts centre and tavern on the left. Street signs look accurate to. Depth perception is really weird. Could be a tall building or a short one in the back. Also does the skywalk on the right like it's 3-4 stories high?

if I remember correctly there was design competition for the mpi site prior to it being awarded to chipman and company.. I am assuming this was one of the renderings that that was submitted .. mpi liked the true north proposal and therefore gave them the rights to develop on the lot

interesting image potential maybe we can just get city place to finaly die and move it to this... and properly run it. and put pressure on portage place to get its act together allready.... sigh

north portage has seen stuff smaller stuff but important such as the rehab of the avenue building none of us thought we would see that place survive for instance....lots of renovations such as aptn as well.... so i dunno its small but important those help.....
