Best Buy is the owner of Futureshop so that may explain why it shows up inside the mall. But who knows... (guy in orange vest?)

If best buy was smart since the current have both areas moving to the bigger location which is also in the mall would be the smart move. They would see a huge increase in their customer flow being in the mall as apposed to its current location sitting alone across the parking lot.

I know I myself when I stop at central I usually look around at the stores in the mall. Rarely do I ever feel like running across a parking lot of idiot drivers to just peak around at best buy.

Exactly what I thought.

It would be a better location indoors for sure.

Looks like Wal-Mart has finally started construction. Hoarding was put up this week at entrances inside the mall.

Will they be a super centre?

walmart said it will only build "supercentres" for future stores. that said they are different levels of the supercentre - you have the massive ones like langley or south surrey and the smaller ones like lougheed mall

The pdf shows Wal-Mart to be 141,710 sq ft on 2 levels (88,921 sq ft Lower level; 52,789 sq ft Upper level) - so it'll be a SuperCentre.

If you notice in the PDF attached, the "Future Shop" location has a giant "Best Buy" logo on it. Lends some validity to a few posts before stating they will be moving into the mall...

Wonder if that means Best Buy outside building will come down and be redeveloped (maybe the start of the parking lot replacement/urbanization?) or just re-leased out.

I'm sure if Surrey had its ways that corner would be redeveloped with a tower or two.

The Brown's Social House that someone said was opening where the old Swiss Chalet use to be on KGB appears to be incorrect (or plans changed). They have signs up now at 100 AVE and 152 St where the new 7-11 and The Keg use to be.

That strip mall now looks like it will contain a BROWN's, Boiling Point and Menchies.

Not sure what's going to go beside Mucho Burrito on KGB.

So while I foolishly tried to brave the Best Buy Black Friday sales, I saw a poster that said they were moving into Central City Mall "soon".

They moved the sign too I saw. Drove by yesterday heading to London Drugs and they Best Buy sign is now on the mall where Future Shop used to be. I still hold hope they will tear the building down and replace it with a high-rise mixed/use development. It is such a prime corner.

Then again I wouldn't be surprised if they just throw up a lease sign and try to get it leased out. *sigh*

Hopefully they throw another landmark tower there. It's probably the most prominent spot in city center. However, they probably will lease it out considering the building was built in 2006 and isn't really old enough to demolish. I remember back in the day when they had Sears Auto Center in the exact same spot.

I wouldn't be surprised if they lease it out for maybe a couple of years while they go through planning and to wait out some of the current construction in the area.

Considering there are no applications to redevelop that site, I'd expect the owners will try to re-lease the building in the short-term.

That being said.. There is the possibility that the property owners (CC Retail Holdings) may have plans underway for the site behind the scenes, just no formal application submitted. The lot that the Best Buy building sits on also includes a portion of the Central City mall as seen in the image below. It seems unlikely that Central City Retail Holdings would develop this site themselves, and more likely that the lot would be subdivided to create a new lot East of the Skytrain guideway, and sold off to another developer.

The city wants to turn the mall access road in front of Central City into an actual dedicated road anyway (the extension of City Parkway), so makes sense that this parcel would be split into 2, separated by a new road. Just speculation but makes the most sense it seems.

I wonder what could fit in there. It's kinda big for just any regular commercial businesses.

A small but upscale department store would do so much to enhance the area. Yes, a but wishful at this point in Surrey Central's development, but with everything else coming into place here, you never know.

The old Brick / Sears Outlet on 104 Avenue at City Parkway is also vacant and is up for lease.

Oh please let that area be redeveloped soon. Most of the area between 104th and 105th, King George to City Parkway is empty (including surface parking in my definition of empty here). I could easily see retail / office north of the TD and a couple towers facing City Parkway.
