The Rogers Communications store in the Northwest Centre has closed.

That's a small space. It might be difficult to fill.......

It looks like it would possibly be big enough for a Little Caesars I know it's a long shot since there is the one in Dieppe but I was reading up on unit requirements, and think this would be a perfect fit.

There is a little ceasers next to the other subway/liquor store. I thought only Tim's & Subway have locations that close together haha.

Guess I should really go up that way more often...

I do agree with MonctonRad that space where the Rogers is/was might be difficult to fill because of it's smaller size.

If we lived in an area where majority of units where as narrow (I believe it's 15, or 18 feet wide) There would be less uncertainty that unit would be filled...

I was talking to a woman who works at the Sobeys, and has since the Shopping strip was named Moncton Mall, and She said she had never seen units stay vacant as long as they have in that location ti'll they changed Moncton Mall to Northwest Center, and from an indoor mall to a Strip Mall.

Well, at least the Northwest Centre will be at 100% occupancy (once H&R Block and Canadian Tire open).

Lots of rumours on the Halifax section about IKEA coming to Dartmouth Crossing by 2017 or so. The rumour is for a 300,000 sq ft store on a 20 acre site. This would be one of their full sized retail outlets.

This would not really be a surprise since the IKEA Canada president recently announced they wanted to build another 12 full sized stores in Canada "from coast to coast". Halifax would be the obvious choice in Atlantic Canada.

The real question is whether IKEA will build one of their smaller pick-up point stores in Moncton at the same time. These stores are about 1/10th the size of a full store, and have a small showroom in addition to an order/pick-up counter and some storage space. IKEA plans to open about 16-18 of these stores across Canada too. I think Moncton would be an obvious choice - perhaps at Mapleton Crossing.........

The Logical spot for a possible IKEA pickup location would be the Mapleton Crossing area close to Princess Auto and Cabela's cause its proximity to the TCH.

And has anyone spoken to people who work at Moncton Chrysler Superstore to see when they are starting construction in their new dealership.

Also do we have any Idea what tennants might be going into the development close to the University of Moncton strip mall development?

And last but not least whats going on with the Plaza 1909 spot any other news on what might be built there after Irving/McDonalds?

I spoke to someone there in the fall and they were pretty sure they were going to break ground in the spring. Keep your eye on the building permits, shouldn't be too much longer.

Speaking to a staff member at sears home store on trinity, they were told they are closing in July. Now we will see what will become of the building.....

If Sears Home is leaving, I would rather have Home Outfitters coming in than the Brick. We don't need another furniture store, but Home Outfitters would be something new to the market and in NB, it would also mean the return of the HBC brand in Moncton.

Tear it down and bring in a Costco Gas bar that would fit in nicely there and drive down gas costs in the Moncton area.

We have enough gas stations and Tim Hortons in town. We probably have the most gas stations and Tim Hortons in Canada per capita, 'nuff said.

Agree on both points, but there is no question that a Costco gas bar would bring significant downward pressure to gasoline prices in the city.

Costco apparently definitely wants to build a gas bar here in Moncton. The question remains on how to do this. Putting it on the Sears Home footprint is certainly an option. Another possibility would be building a new (expanded) Costco store elsewhere. The rumours of Costco decamping to the Day & Ross site across from Mapleton Crossing and next to the TCH persist and just won't go away. I heard this rumour again just the other day (second hand from a person who had spoken to a Costco employee, who had apparently volunteered this information).

If both Sears Home and Costco were to disappear from Wheeler Park, that would put that development in real jeopardy. There are already three vacancies in the wing to the south of the Cineplex Cinema.

We'll have to keep an eye on Wheeler Park over the next year or two. This is a critical time for the original big box development in the city.

I work at the Superstore there and it's biggest downfall is getting in and out. It takes for ever just go get out of the parking lot let along on to Mountain or Mapleton. It's a traffic nightmare!

This is one of the reasons Costco wants to leave. As for Sears, my work actually rents some of the parking lot for employee parking, and at Christmas Costco was doing the same. The building is definitely too big for the brick though. Their stores are probably only 20,000 sq/ft.

If Costco were to decamp from Wheeler; that might be a great thing for it. Without a doubt, Costco is the biggest Traffic Generator there. While Costco leaving would be a big blow, anyone else who shows up won't cause as much traffic which might be a good thing. Of course, I'd be hard pressed to figure out who could take the whole Costco would leave.

Costco Gas does depress the gas prices in a region. Freddy gas prices haven't been at the max since Costco showed up, and I suspect Costco's shadow reaches from Nackawic to Gagetown if not beyond. Everyone pins at 2cents more than Costco (further out they pin higher but still not near the max) which in turn is usually about 10 cents less than the EUB Max. So while Moncton may have more than enough gas stations; a Costco Gas bar would probably be good (for consumers at least; the Gas station owners are probably dreading it showing up and that might kill some of them).

I for one won't be going to fill-up at Costco to save 2 cents. I fill-up at Petro-Canada where the gas is ethanol free which is worth more than 2 cents, but that is another story. If we are excited for a new gas station, we really don't have much to be excited about.

It's not that Costco is 2 cents cheaper. It's that it is TEN cents cheaper and it drags the rest of the prices down around it. Or at least the rest of the normal Unleaded gas prices that most people use (whether they should or not) are dragged down.

Currently, regular gas is capped at 94.4 cents in NB.

Costco Freddy is selling it at 84.4 cents. this is the Wholesale price by the looks of it.

Most other places in Freddy is around 89.9 cents; 5 cents less than the max.

NOTE: From the looks of it, The Costco effect only seems to apply to the basic regular Unleaded gas prices that most people use. Looking at Gasbuddy and comparing to the NB EUB Archive site, there doesn't seem to be much movement on the Premium gas prices (which Costco also sells at Wholesale) and especially not on Diesel or Mid-grade unleaded. (which Costco doesn't sell at all)

A Costco move out of Wheeler park would make me happy.

1) I don't buy and nor am I a member of Costco and have no plans to be one either.
2) Because of the massive traffic jam is causes, I tend to avoid going to Kent & Superstore on occasions on weekends when I really wanted something at these two stores.
3) Getting in & out of that whole area is a nightmare and that's including Plaza Blvd and Trinity Dr.

A Costco move down the road would relieve some of that congestion for sure. Would it hurt some of the retailers in the area, I don't think so. It may in fact boost sales by all those who avoid the area on weekends!
