I'm really excited for this to be built, but I was driving by Memorial Drive a few days ago and managed to catch a glimpse of Brookfield Place. From the perspective I was given, it wasn't even as tall as Suncor, let alone the Bow. Considering that there is < 8 floors remaining plus the crown, how do they expect this building to reach 810 feet?

It looked to be around 650 odd feet tall from what I saw. I'm expecting the height of each storey to be somewhat high, so a random number coming into my head that seems viable is ~14 feet per storey? Upon adding this to my hypothetical 650 feet already built, we would reach 762 feet. Would this mean that the crown will be ~48 feet tall? Otherwise, how would this building reach 810 feet with only 8 floors left, considering with 48 floors it still isn't taller than Suncor?

I wouldn't doubt my math to be significantly off, feel free to correct me as required. I'm just really excited for this building as I love tall structures and I love Calgary. I would really enjoy some reassurance that it will indeed be the new tallest building in Calgary though, cause from the viewpoint I was given, it's tough to say.

Interesting. A couple pages up on this forum everyone was talking about there only being 8 floors left to go. Nonetheless, 16-17 is a much more comforting and reasonable number.
Thanks

That conversation was based off of a false count in an article posted in a different forum.

I have a good view from the west, so I just counted.

The glass is now complete up to floor 22.

The white sheets are covering floors between 33-36 (at least on the north, west, and south sides), depending on which side you're viewing the building from.

The top floor is now 40, and the roof is 41.

So, 16 more floors to go. Great guess!

While the floor count is listed at 56, the crown is three stories as well and the core extended up to floor "58".
my count yesterday was floor 45 on the core

Well if only one of us won the Powerball we could have broken off some of that sweet cash to get Brookfield to go a little taller.

45 on the core looks about right. Floors 41-43 are partially built on the southwest corner now.

Edit: Windows being put up on 23 today.

I honestly think that if the city was serious about keeping the Alberta tallest, they could incent Brookfield to add a couple floors.

Honestly, I think the city has bigger and better things to worry about than whether or not Edmonton has a taller building than Calgary does and besides that, I would suspect adding a couple of floors isn't just as simple as some people think it might be.

Hell, it will take years for Edmonton to ever have the density and overall height Calgary has in it's core and beltline and people are worried about Stantec?

Yeah i dont know why people worried about Stantec so much its only like 5 meter taller than Brookfield not a big difference. Over all Calgary still got more while edmonton only has 1

I totally get why some of us are a bit concerned about Stantec tower. We've had the tallest outside of Toronto for years. It is a statis symbol in our society to have the tallest building around. That's why many on this forum get excited to have a new tallest go up. It's human nature and you can bet your bottom dollar that the city 300 km north of us will be rubbing it in our faces all the time.

Well I'm kind of glad that my view of Calgary isn't necessarily diminished just because we may not have the tallest building in western Canada and my civic pride won't be hurt one bit if others feel the need to shove it in my face because I know there's many, many other things that makes Calgary great in my eyes.

Nor should it but I was stating the fact that that is why some of us on here want to continue to hold that title. It doesn't make me think any less of our wonderful city or any more of their city. It was just the fact that Calgary had that title for so many years and one got use to it.
