Ps. What the heck is that "D" building in Calgary?
Haha it is a former proposal called 3 Eau Claire that actually began site prep before the developer went bankrupt in early 2014. The site has since been bought by BCIMC and has been redesigned into a single mixed-use tower in the 160 - 180 meter range. Renders of this project are pending release.

Chad: 180 meters would would be just right on that spot! I remember suggesting that about 3-4 years ago. Looking forward to seeing a proposal.

The D building actually looks pretty fun in that rendering.

Did they steal that from 1990's North York?

While I applaud the architects for designing something a little different, I'm not too fond of the recent trend to surround BC place with these extremely wide designs.

I'm not a big fan of Vancouver's skyline (minus the mountain backdrop), but one thing it had going for it was that the city forced designers to adopt skinny designs making the relatively short towers appear taller than they were. If the towers were somewhat monotonous in their materials, at least it was made up for by the fact that they were matchsticks.

Ehh..... not a fan of YEG's library idea. I don't even know what's going on. Perhaps a high quality render would change my mind, but it's too much IMO

100% agree with everything you said. it's a shame they are blocking in BC Place. After it's retrofit it went from boring to beautiful and now it's going to be hidden from most views.

So true.

I use to hate "the mushroom" and was itching to see it implode. Now I absolutely love it and it's the classic "if you have lemons you make lemonade". They did an outstanding job on it and it would be a shame to have it covered up by a sea of monotonous glass boxes.

I'd rather them steal it from 1990s North York than 21st century City Place.

I totally disagree. I love the wider larger floor plate buildings. I hope they become more and more common

There are probably close to 10 proposals for buildings in the 25-35 floor range for downtown London, a few uglies and several that up the game for this city.

This building is now U/C, 29 floors.

This is another one recently approved by council. Another 29 floors.

LMAO. I just don't get the vile and contempt against Cityplace from an architectural point of view. Sure it's monochromatic, the masterplan leaves alot to be desired and, design standards are dropping but, even Quartz blows most of North York out of the water.

agreed.

Just a reminder, this is what North York looks like.

^ I think he is talking about a set of ugly fat twins in London called City Place, not the towers in DT Toronto.
