The only unfortunate thing is that the Bannatyne Campus is basically a fortress. There is absolutely no surrounding "university district" with apartments/shops/cafes geared to students.

This is in the works, a while back someone posted the plan for the Bannatyne Campus that involved all new streetscaping, some new retail space and I believe closing one of the streets to vehicles. Can't remember where that is though, sorry.

Yes, I read engineering with take over the nursing space on the Fort Garry campus.

That said Human Ecology is being ended and programs which are staying are moving to other faculties. Some of those programs moved to the new medicine faculty which includes nursing, dentistry, pharmacy and the old medicine. The new building is being talked about as the new home for nursing yet nothing is being said about the former programs from Human Ecology that would seemingly also move from Fort Garry to Banytane.

It looks like the crane lifts to the Manitoba Clinic parkade expansion are completed and they have started driving piles on the old Shell site where the new building will go.

When are they going to replace that gawd-awful two-storey plywood clad monstrosity that looks like a 1970s house near the main entrance? Anyone know the purpose of that addition?

What street is that on?

So by my count today's announcement will make for 3 substantial new building projects on the HSC campus, not counting the ones that are nearing completion (Women's, Children's). It's starting to feel like a mini-downtown around there.

Lol I'm not sure. I remember going in to the hospital for physio years back and saying, "wow that's ugly". Just looks really cheap for a major hospital continuously undergoing expansion and renovations.

The irony is that the three recent announcements: Manitoba Clinic, U of M Nursing, and CancerCare are actually not part of HSC even though they are in the same neighbourhood. The diagnostic imaging building with the helipad near Children's Hospital and the Women's Hospital are HSC buildings.

I really wonder though how the U of M expansion was announced without any chatter about how that plan includes an expansion of the U of M parkade there to house the displaced spots on where the new building will be. It was previously announced as part of U of M's overall plans for the area.

Not to mention Kleysen Institute for Advanced Medicine as well as the new CanadInns

I'm assuming CancerCare will be 2 separate buildings unlike the original render that had a skywalk at the original 700 McDermot location? That'll be a bummer for CCMB staff in winter.

My bet is those shanty buildings you speak of will be replaced by the new HSC Bed Tower. Site feasibility RFP is out today. It will be a big one.

The U of M has two huge parkades at the HSC campus... Emily St and the larger, newer one on Tecumseh. A rare example of a Winnipeg land owner building a sufficient amount of parkade space. I think they're set for a while.

Is there somewhere HSC, or the WRHA maybe, post their RFP's? Merx or their own website?
