Plenty of activity at the site today. Looks like they're prepping for excavation.

Asphalt is being removed, starting in the northeast corner. All the old barriers, etc that were around the parking lot have been removed (may have been last week, not sure). Looks like they're moving in for the long haul!

Can't wait until some clear renders and floor/site plans bubble up to the surface.

I'm going to guess there will be a lot less glass, as many have noted is not feasible anymore with the new building regs.

City will help True North Square: Bowman

Mayor Brian Bowman says the city will assist the True North Square mega project.

Bowman says city officials are in talks with True North.

The mayor says the city could pay for public infrastructure like sewer, water, skywalks, street lighting and sidewalks.

Construction is underway for the $400 million downtown development.

The project includes a hotel, office tower, residential building and a plaza for hockey fans.

Now that it appears to be moving ahead, I wonder what if any impact TNS will have on Cityplace? With three towers full of people moving in across the street, will there be new life and perhaps a few new retail tenants to replace the space that is currently being used as offices or marginal filler stores like Asia Gifts?

Fantastic to hear this is moving forward. A pretty significant project for downtown Peg. Adds a lot to that area, and will be another place to go out downtown for people to enjoy. Plus, it seems to be expanding the skywalk system there which is always nice. All before an official announcement too - thats pretty neat.

So, is true north trying to build a tower a year in the peg or something?

^ The skywalk system won't really be expanding... just that there will be another way to get to the RBCCC from Cityplace now.

(I guess they didn't have to build that new leg through 330 St. Mary Ave after all now... oops!)
