They put in nice pavers for the parking lot, but other than that it is expressionless. The Silver Street bar/restaurant row is suppose to emulate Yaletown. I don't have high hopes. I wonder how many actual bar/restaurant type places will set up there. I'm thinking it's going to be more of a fast food row.

Even the reno of the old building has Boston Pizza hidden behind a vestibule for both BBB and Boston Pizza - no streetfront visibility or patio capability. That's weird.

It is very bizarre indeed. That is far worse location then they use to have...

Frankly, I am dubious on the future of the entire Station Square mall and especially Bed, Bath and Beyond...Station Square never had much patronage and it never will be able to match Metrotown mall itself...I wonder whether rents are much more affordable...The whole integration with the rest of the area remains the issue - its awkwardly positioned, separated from Metrotown mall and I think it will have big parking/traffic issues when all buildings are completed.

Station Square commercial development

I was at Station Square about 1 year ago, and it was a run-down shopping centre. I was back there again at Christmas time (December 2015) and it was a brand new mall.

Can someone tell me, was it a major renovation, or did they tear the old mall down and rebuild from scratch. It seems like it was too fast for that to happen.

It was a major renovation. They pretty much kept the shell of the building and used a fair amount of new steel frame construction.

It's long time since I have been in Metrotown. Has the second towers started going up above the ground already? A photo update would be appreciated.

Haha, hasn't been happening. The price is now down to $4000/month.

The new TD Canada Trust location at tower 1 is almost ready. A "Coming Soon" sign is up. Looks like the move from the existing location will happen in the next few weeks.

Edit: Actually the move will happen during the weekend Jan 23-24. The bank will open at the new location on Monday Jan 25

Here is the latest report on Phases III and IV, going to city council on February 22nd. Remember, these are the towers designed by KPF.
https://burnaby.civicweb.net/filepro/documents/?preview=16289 (7.9mb)

Quote:
Phase III (6080 McKay Avenue) is for a 41-storey residential apartment tower atop a three storey podium including office, retail and residential uses fronting McKay Avenue, Kingsborough Street and the internal roadways of Assembly Way and Silver Drive.
Quote:
Phase IV (4630 Kingsway) is for a 52-storey residential apartment tower atop a three storey podium with office, retail and residential uses, fronting Kingsway, McKay Avenue and the internal roadways of Assembly Way and Silver Drive.
There are also official heights listed for the towers:
Phase III - 140.5m (461 ft.)
Phase IV - 172m (565 ft.) - Tallest building in Metrotown, Future 8th tallest in Metro Vancouver

Unfortunately, no drawings are provided.

Yeah! We have some heights!

So, the last phase will actually be the tallest? 172 meters is pretty good. (i wonder if that is spire height or not)

A little surprised from that.

So, the first tower is 35 floors, 119 meters.

2nd tower is 38 floors and......? meters

3rd tower is 48 floors (maybe 2nd tallest then, over 150 meters?) and........? meters

4th tower will be 41 floors (changed from the posted 48 in the title) and 141 meters.

5th tower will be 52 floors and 172 meters.

Is this correct?? Am I following this right?

The diagrams section says that 4670 Assembly Way (the 48 floor tower u/c) is 163.1 meters. is this correct, where did that info come from?

Also, would be nice to get some diagrams for these towers on the Burnaby diagram (and updated / corrected heights, they seem to be all over the map there).

If all these numbers are correct, that will be 7 towers built / UC / and proposed over 150 meters in Burnaby.

With Vancouver's recent bizarre height reductions, that may be more than Vancouver proper.

For sure, in building number count alone. And does your list include what's going up in Brentwood? That's real height. (Throw in Lougheed Town Centre for future reference)

I'm getting super frustrated trying to get accurate info out of Burnaby for tower heights.
  1. I have 4688 Kingsway (the first tower, 35 floors) at 114m to the top of the roof/fins. I have heard 119m is the spire height.
  2. I don't have any confirmed number for 6098 Station Street (38 fl.), except for a possible spire height of 126m. This number seems to make sense.
  3. I don't have any confirmed number for 4670 Assembly Way (48 fl.), except for a possible spire height of 169m. This number also seems to make sense.
  4. 6080 McKay Avenue (41 fl.) is 141m. Today's numbers.
  5. 4630 Kingsway (52 fl.) is 172m. Today's numbers.
What a mess. As for the diagram numbers, most of Burnaby's numbers are actually wrong. Like it's almost as bad as Emporis... :S

PS - please don't turn this into a Burnaby vs. Vancouver thread. Not talking about you Metro. Just worried that Vin and others will use the opportunity...

There is no need to turn it into a competition. Burnaby is clearly kicking vancouver — .

Thanks - can't wait to see renders.

If they're describin it as a 41 or 52 storey tower 'atop' a 3 storey podium, I read that as meaning 44 and 55 storey towers.
