Not just condos, but $8 million penthouses...

Let's hope they keep this nice crown on the new building, and don't neuter it like they did on the 4S.

Denver (RTD)

Rail: 83K
Bus: 252k
DR: 4.8k
VP:1.3k
Total: 341.2k

SLC (UTA)

Rail (LRT+CRT): 84.2k
Bus: 71.4k
DR: 3.4k
VP: 5.6k
Total: 164.7k

Denver has double the ridership. SLC punches well above its weight for rail ridership (in the US).

For Calgary, from what I could gather, they have 107.5 million annual boardings which puts them at ~350k daily riders. Very impressive.

This can all be moved to the transportation thread if need be.

That's funny. I'm without a doubt the most critical person in history regarding Denver's ineptitude and indifference regarding everything skyline, and even I'm not buying this news of 1144's crown not being illuminated. It's just not possible given the immense opportunity to make such a striking statement.

I mean come on, Denver isn't THAT foolish.

That's at least what I heard, from Hines themselves... But it's going to have cool lighting going up the sides like 1999 Broadway... I guess we shall wait and see with this one!

Cages are only allowed to sit on site for a short amount of time before getting installed, and caissons (which it looks like are being drilled) can only stay open for 8hrs, so they will be put in soon. If it does have a basement they could be using the top/down construction method, but that is pretty rare (especially in CO) to do because its a pain in the butt for the excavators. Most likely it just doesn't have a basement, or only a utility basement. Not all that unusual downtown, the Spire didn't have one, the Hyatt doesn't have one., etc.

Edit: and looking at the renderings again, it has 7 levels of above grade parking, so there probably isn't a basement.

Yeah I get that there are twice as many transit riders in Denver that is why I was surprised with the rail ridership. Other reasons include; Denver opened light rail service before SLC did, Colorado is far less conservative than Utah(Srsly the number of people out here that don't "believe" in global warming is ridonkulous), Denver doesn't have the awkward geopolitical boundaries that SLC has, and the last time I was in Denver(about a decade ago) the rail looked to be coming along nicely.

As far as "SLC punching above her weight" I wouldn't put it that way. I would say that rail is underdeveloped in SLC to a lesser extent than many other US cities. I am still surprised to hear that Denver isn't forging ahead with rail at a faster pace than SLC.

There are three new lines opening this year, including one that connects downtown to the airport.
